Configure Windows updates - Elastic Desktop Service - Alibaba Cloud Documentation Center

WUYING Workspace Enterprise Edition verifies the security and compatibility of Microsoft's official updates through Alibaba Cloud's internal WSUS server, intercepting high-risk patches that may cause system abnormalities. This approach maintains the benefits of native Windows updates while ensuring users receive the latest security protection and avoid potential downtime risks due to update conflicts.

Limits

Currently does not support Shared Cloud Computers.
Only applicable to Windows Server 2022/2019 images version 2.8.0 and above.

Enable Windows updates

After configuring and enabling Windows updates, cloud computers that meet the update conditions will display update options upon shutdown or restart.

Log on to the EDS Enterprise console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resources > Cloud Computers.
In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.
Windows update configuration supports batch enabling. Please choose according to your business needs.

On the Enterprise Edition Cloud Computer page, find the target cloud computer, click the ⋮ icon in the Operation column, and select Configure Windows Updates.

On the Enterprise Edition Cloud Computer page, select multiple target cloud computers. In the lower-left corner, select More > Configure Windows Updates.

On the Configure Windows Updates panel, first enable the Accept Windows Updates switch, then configure the following options.

Set The Intranet Update Server For Detecting Updates	By default, it points to Alibaba Cloud's Intranet update server for detecting updates. Administrators can customize it.
Set The Intranet Statistics Server	By default, it points to Alibaba Cloud's Intranet statistics server. Administrators can customize it.
Always Overwrite The User-specified Intranet Microsoft Update Service Location In The Operating System	Checked by default. The Intranet Microsoft update service you specify will overwrite the update service set by users in the cloud computer.

Note

Click Restore Default Update Service Location to restore the Intranet Update Server and Statistics Server to the default Alibaba Cloud WSUS server.

Click Confirm.

Test the connectivity of the update server

You can use the following commands in the cloud computer to test the connectivity to the update server. Before testing, replace the URL in the command with the actual update server address you are using.

Prerequisites: Ensure that you have enabled the Telnet Client in Turn Windows features on or off on the cloud computer.

Update Windows

Prerequisites: The cloud computer must be in a running state. Updates cannot be executed during shutdown or hibernation.

Log on to the EDS Enterprise console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resources > Cloud Computers.
In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.
Windows updates support batch operations. Please choose according to your business needs.

Note
Cloud computers that meet the update conditions will display update options during shutdown or restart. For specific information, refer to the console page. This topic will take restart and update as an example.

On the Enterprise Edition Cloud Computer page, find the target cloud computer, click Restart in the operation column, select Update And Restart, and click Confirm.

On the Enterprise Edition Cloud Computer page, find the target cloud computer and check it on the left. In the lower-left corner, click Restart, select Update And Restart in the pop-up window, and click Confirm.
