Elastic Desktop Service:Scale up disks

Last Updated:Oct 29, 2024

As your business develops and application data grows, your disk space may become insufficient. In this case, you can scale up disks, including system disks and data disks, for larger disk space. This topic describes disk scale-ups, including the limits, billing, and methods.

Background information

Disks

By default, Enterprise Office and General Office cloud computers in Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) use ultra disks. Enterprise Graphics, Graphics, and High Frequency cloud computers use Enterprise SSDs (ESSDs). The performance levels of the disks are consistent with those in the cloud computer templates. For more information about disk categories, see Disk categories. If you want to upgrade the performance level of disks, see Change the PL of an ESSD.

Limits

The following limits apply to disk scale-up operations:

  • You can only scale up disks. Disks cannot be scaled down after they are scaled up. We recommend that you properly plan your storage space.

  • Disks can be scaled up only in increments of 10 GiB. The capacity of a system disk can be up to 500 GiB, and the capacity of a data disk can be up to 2,040 GiB.

Billing

Scaling up cloud computer disks incurs charges based on the unit price of disk capacity for the additional space added. For more information, see Billable items.

  • Subscription cloud computers: You must pay for the incremental capacity based on the remaining subscription duration.

  • Pay-as-you-go cloud computers: The scale-up immediately takes effect, and you are charged based on the new capacity immediately after the scale-up.

Prerequisites

  • The cloud computer for which you want to scale up disks is in the Running or Stopped state.

  • Your data on the cloud computer is backed up. This prevents data loss in case of scale-up failures. For example, you can create snapshots for the cloud computer in advance. For more information, see Use snapshots (public preview).

Scale up the disks of a single cloud computer

  1. Log on to the EDS console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resources & Terminals > Cloud Computers.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.

  4. On the Cloud Computers page, find the cloud computer that you want to manage, click the ⋮ icon in the Actions column, and then select Scale Up.

  5. In the Scale Up panel, perform the following operations based on the billing method of the cloud computer:

    Subscription cloud computer

    1. In the Target Disk Size section, set the desired capacities of the system disk and data disk, and click OK.

    2. In the message that appears, click Confirm.

    3. On the Purchase page, click Subscribe and complete the payment.

    Pay-as-you-go cloud computer

    1. Set the desired capacities of the system disk and data disk, and click OK.

    2. In the message that appears, click OK.

During the scale-up, the cloud computer is in the Upgrading state on the Cloud Computers page. When the status of the cloud computer changes from Upgrading to Running or Stopped (the previous state), the scale-up is complete.

Scale up the disks of multiple cloud computers

  1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resources & Terminals > Cloud Computers.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.

  3. On the Cloud Computers page, select the cloud computers for which you want to scale up disks, and choose More > Scale Up in the lower part of the page.

  4. In the Specify Disk Size step of the Scale Up panel, select the billing method used by the cloud computers, select the qualified cloud computers, and then click Next.

    Note

To scale up disks of multiple cloud computers at a time, the cloud computers must be using the same billing method. Therefore, if the cloud computers that you selected in the previous step are of different billing methods, you must separately scale up disks for them.

  5. In the Confirm Disk Size step, perform one of the following operations based on your business requirements and click Confirm.

    • Unified scale-up: To separately scale up the system disks and data disks of the cloud computers to the same within their respective categories, select Specify Disk Size, and then set the desired capacities for the system and data disks as needed.

    • Separate scale-up: To separately scale up the disks of each cloud computer, select Separately Specify New Capacity, and then set the desired capacities for the system and data disks as needed.

  6. In the message that appears, click Confirm.

  7. Conditional. If the selected cloud computers are subscription cloud computers, click Subscribe on the Purchase page and follow the instructions on the page to complete the payment.

During the scale-up, the cloud computer is in the Upgrading state on the Cloud Computers page. When the status of the cloud computer changes from Upgrading to Running or Stopped (the previous state), the scale-up is complete.
