Elastic Desktop Service:Change the specifications of cloud computers

Last Updated:Dec 09, 2024

In most cases, the specifications of cloud computers refer to a suite of computing resources, including vCPUs, memory, and GPU memory. The specifications determine the performance of cloud computers. You can upgrade or downgrade cloud computers by changing the specifications of the cloud computers based on your business requirements. This topic describes how to change the specifications of cloud computers.

Background information

Changing the specifications of a cloud computer only affects the computing resources of the cloud computers, while the storage resources and user data of the cloud computer remain unaffected. After you upgrade or downgrade a cloud computer, you may be charged additional fees or receive a refund for the price difference.

The following table describes the limits when you change the specifications of a cloud computer.

Usage notes

All

All

  • You can change the specifications only between cloud computers of the same type. You cannot change the specifications between an Office-based cloud computer and a Graphics-based cloud computer.

  • The specifications of a cloud computer contain a fixed suite of configuration items. When you change the specifications, the change applies to all configuration items. You cannot change only one configuration item.

  • You must wait at least 5 minutes before you change the specification of the same cloud computer.

Monthly subscription (unlimited computing plans)

Upgrade cloud computers

  • You are charged for the price difference between the original specifications and the new specifications for the remainder of the current billing cycle.

  • If you renew or downgrade a cloud computer within the current billing cycle, you cannot upgrade the cloud computer until the next billing cycle starts.

Downgrade cloud computers

  • You can downgrade a cloud computer up to three times per month. After the quota of three downgrades per month is exhausted, you can no longer downgrade the cloud computer. The quota is automatically renewed on the first day of the succeeding month.

  • The following formula is used to calculate the refundable amount: Refundable amount = Remaining duration × (Price difference between the original specifications and the new specifications/Total duration). The actual refundable amount displayed on the refund page shall prevail. Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) issues refunds based on the payment method that is used at the time of purchase. Consumed coupons are not refunded.

    Note

The remaining duration refers to the remaining period of time during which the cloud computer is available before you downgrade the cloud computer. The price difference refers to the difference in prices between the original specifications and the new specifications of the cloud computer.

Monthly subscription (120 hours/month or 250 hours/month computing plans)

Upgrade or downgrade cloud computers

  • The feature for upgrading or downgrading cloud computers that use the 120 hours/month computing plan or the 250 hours/month computing plan is in invitational preview. If you want to use the feature, submit a ticket to enable the feature.

  • For monthly subscription cloud computers, you can switch between the 120 hours/month computing plan and the 250 hours/month computing plan. However, you cannot change a limited computing plan to an unlimited computing plan.

  • To change the specifications of monthly subscription cloud computers, you must cancel your current subscription and place a new order. You may receive a refund and be required to pay new fees.

    Important

Before you cancel your subscription, make sure that all important data is saved and securely backed up because unsubscribed cloud computers are released.
