ApsaraDB for SelectDB:Update the kernel version of an instance

ApsaraDB for SelectDB allows you to update the kernel version of instances. You can improve performance, use new features, or fix issues by updating the kernel version of instances. If the kernel version of an instance is outdated, service interruptions and data loss may occur. This topic describes how to update the kernel version of an instance in the ApsaraDB for SelectDB console.

Usage notes

  • If a new kernel version is released, ApsaraDB for SelectDB sends notifications to the contacts that are specified within your Alibaba Cloud account. Update the kernel version of your instances at the earliest opportunity. If you do not update the kernel version of your instances to the latest version within six months after you receive the update notifications, service interruptions and data loss may occur.

  • After you update the kernel version of your instances, you cannot roll the kernel version of the instances back to the previous version.

  • When you update the kernel version of your instances, you can only view the cluster information. You cannot perform operations such as changing cluster configurations, stopping clusters, or deleting clusters on the instances.

Procedure

Warning

If you update the kernel version of an ApsaraDB for SelectDB instance, the clusters in the instance are restarted and the instance may be unavailable for 1 to 5 minutes. We recommend that you update the kernel version of the instance during off-peak hours and make sure that your application can be automatically reconnected to the instance.

  1. Log on to the ApsaraDB for SelectDB console.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select the region in which the instance that you want to manage resides.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances. On the Instances page, find the instance and click the instance ID. The Instance Details page appears.

  4. In the Configuration Information section, click Version Upgrade to the right of Minor Engine Version.

  5. In the dialog box that appears, configure the parameters that are described in the following table as prompted.

    Desired Version

    The kernel version to which you want to update for the instance.

    Update Method

    The method that is used to update the kernel version. Valid values:ApsaraDB for SelectDB

    • Update Now: immediately updates the kernel version of the instance.

    • Update Within Maintenance Window: updates the kernel version of the instance within the maintenance window that you specify. For more information, see Specify a maintenance window.

  6. Click OK.
