This topic describes how to create an instance in the ApsaraDB for SelectDB console.
Prerequisites
An Alibaba Cloud account is created. If you have not created an Alibaba Cloud account, go to the Alibaba Cloud official website to create one.
Application Real-Time Monitoring Service (ARMS) is activated within the Alibaba Cloud account.
NoteYou can activate ARMS free of charge. After ARMS is activated, you can use all features of ARMS. For billable features, ARMS provides free quotas. After the free quotas are used up, you are charged based on the pay-as-you-go billing method.
For more information about how to activate ARMS, see Activate ARMS.
Usage notes
If you want to create an ApsaraDB for SelectDB instance as a Resource Access Management (RAM) user, you must attach the AliyunSelectDBFullAccess policy to the RAM user. For more information about how to grant permissions to a RAM user, see Grant permissions to a RAM user.
If you want to create a pay-as-you-go instance, make sure that the balance of your Alibaba Cloud account is sufficient.
Make sure that at least one cluster is available in an ApsaraDB for SelectDB instance. By default, the system creates a cluster in an ApsaraDB for SelectDB instance when you create the instance.
Procedure
Log on to the ApsaraDB for SelectDB console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances. On the Instances page, click Create Instance.
On the buy page, specify the billing method of the instance.
Billing Method
Scenario
Subscription
You complete the payment when you create an instance. If you want to use the instance for a long period of time, the subscription billing method is more cost-effective than the pay-as-you-go billing method. You are provided with larger discounts for longer subscription durations.
Pay-as-you-go
You pay for bills after you use an instance. After you purchase the instance, Alibaba Cloud automatically deducts fees from your account on an hourly basis based on the instance specifications. You can use this billing method if you want to use the instance for a short period of time. For example, if you create an instance for a test, you can release the instance to reduce costs after the test is complete. When you can estimate the amount of resources that you need each month or each year, you can change the billing method of the instance from pay-as-you-go to subscription.
Configure the following parameters based on the billing method of the instance.
Subscription
Parameter
Description
Example
Region and Zone
The region and zone in which you want to create the ApsaraDB for SelectDB instance. A region indicates the geographical location at which the instance resides. You cannot change the region after the instance is created. To accelerate access, we recommend that you select a region that is nearest to the location of your business.
A zone indicates the physical area that has an independent power supply and an independent network in a region. Zones are isolated from each other. All zones in a region provide the same services.
China, China (Hangzhou), Hangzhou Zone H
VPC
The ID of the VPC in which you want to create the instance. If no VPC is available, go to the VPC console to create one.
vpc-bp175iuvg8nxqraf2****
vSwitch
The ID of the vSwitch in the specified VPC. If no vSwitch is available, go to the VPC console to create one.

Kernel Version
The kernel version of the ApsaraDB for SelectDB instance. The kernel version corresponds to a version of Apache Doris. For more information, see Release notes for SelectDB Core.
3.0
Subscription Computing Resources
The total computing resources of all subscription clusters in the instance. When you create a subscription instance, the system creates a subscription cluster in the instance by default. In this case, the computing resources of the default cluster equals the total computing resources of the instance.
8 Cores, 32 GB
Subscription Cache Size
The total cache size of all subscription clusters in the instance.
NoteWhen you create a subscription instance, the system creates a subscription cluster in the instance by default. In this case, the cache size of the default cluster equals the total cache size of the instance.
The cache is used to store hot data, which accelerates read and write operations. The upper and lower limits of the cache size vary based on the specifications of computing resources that you select.
Unit: GB.
200 GB
Storage Space
The storage capacity of full data. You do not need to specify the storage capacity for your instance.
The metering system collects statistics on the actual storage usage and generates bills based on the actual storage usage on an hourly basis.
N/A
Table Name Case Sensitivity
Specifies whether the table name is case-sensitive.
Case-sensitive
Resource Group
The resource group to which the instance belongs.
Default Resource Group
Tag
Optional. The tags to be added to your instance.
Duration
The subscription duration of the instance. If you set the Billing Method parameter to Subscription, you must configure the Duration parameter.
1 Month
Auto-renewal
Specifies whether to enable the auto-renewal feature for the instance. If you set the Billing Method parameter to Subscription, you can determine whether to enable the auto-renewal feature for the instance.
If you do not enable the auto-renewal feature for the instance when you create the instance, you can enable the auto-renewal feature or manually renew the instance in the Expenses and Costs console.
Auto-renewal is selected.
