MaxCompute charges you for data storage and backup based on data volumes. This topic describes the storage billing rules.
Background information
You need to compress data before you can upload the data to MaxCompute. After data compression, MaxCompute reduces the data size to about 20% of the original size. Therefore, in most cases, the size of the data file you upload is different from the size of the data file that is actually stored in MaxCompute. Three replicas are stored for each data record in MaxCompute, and you are charged for the compressed size of one replica on a pay-as-you-go basis. You are charged for data storage and backup.
For more information about the billing formulas and pricing for data storage, see Billing for tiered storage.

If an instance has an overdue payment, the instance may be suspended. To prevent your services from being affected, the system reminds you or notifies you to settle the overdue payment at the earliest opportunity. For more information, see Overdue payments and service suspension.
In normal cases, storage bills are generated within three hours or even up to six hours after the current billing cycle ends. For example, the bill of the previous day is generated before 06:00 the next day. The actual generation time is determined by the system. After the bill is generated, the fee is automatically deducted from your account balance. You can go to the
Bill Details page to view the bill details.

Billing for tiered storage
MaxCompute is billed on a project basis by collecting the data volume of each MaxCompute project in each hour. For the projects that use tiered storage, you are charged data access fees based on the amount of the accessed data. The following table describes the billing rules.
Storage type | Billing formula | Pricing | Description |
Standard storage | Daily storage fees = Average daily storage volume × Unit price | If the actual storage volume of a project is 1 GB or less than 1 GB, the data storage is free of charge. If the actual storage volume exceeds 1 GB, you are charged for the extra data volume based on the unit price USD 0.0006 per GB per day. Note The SAU (Riyadh - Partner Region) region is operated by a partner, with a unit price of USD 0.00072 per GB per day. | Average daily storage volume = Sum of the collected storage volume/24 |

Billing for backup storage
MaxCompute supports automatic backup and restoration. For more information, see Backup and restoration.
MaxCompute collects the backup storage volume of each MaxCompute project in each hour for billing. The following table describes the billing rules.
Billing formula | Price | Description |
Daily backup storage fees = Average daily backup storage volume × Unit price |
| Average daily backup storage volume = Sum of the collected backup storage volume/24 |
