DataWorks:View and set alert contacts

Last Updated:Jan 13, 2026

You can set a Resource Access Management (RAM) user or RAM role as an alert contact. When a running task triggers a configured alert rule, DataWorks sends an alert message in the specified language, such as Chinese or English, to the contact. This helps you find and handle exceptions promptly. You can also configure an alternate alert contact. If an alert message cannot be delivered to the alert contact, the platform forwards the message to the alternate alert contact.

Precautions

  • Configuration details

    • When you configure a mobile phone number for an alert contact, you must add a country code. Phone call alerts are supported only for mobile numbers in the Chinese mainland. For example, configure a mobile number in the Chinese mainland as 86139********.

      Note

To send alerts to mobile numbers outside the Chinese mainland, you can create a custom webhook service. DataWorks pushes messages to your webhook service, and the service then forwards the messages to the mobile number.

    • If the email addresses of the alert contact and the alternate alert contact are both incorrect, the platform sends alert messages to the recipient configured for messages about overdue payments, service suspensions, and upcoming releases. This recipient is configured in the Basic Receiving Management section for your Alibaba Cloud account. In this case, the alert contacts and alternate alert contacts configured in DataWorks cannot receive alert messages.

    • The alert language configured in Management Center is also used by Operation Center. When an alert rule is triggered, Operation Center sends notifications in this language by text message or email.

  • Permissions

An Alibaba Cloud account, a RAM user with the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess permission, a tenant administrator, or a security administrator can set alert contact information. You can also use custom roles. Grant a role the permissions to view alert resources, set the maximum number of alerts, and view contacts. For more information, see Create a custom RAM policy.

  • Contact information updates

If an alert contact's information changes but is not updated in DataWorks, the contact must log on to DataWorks once to trigger the update.

Prerequisites

A RAM user or RAM role is created and added to your DataWorks workspace.

Go to the Alert Contact page

  1. Go to the SettingCenter page.

Log on to the DataWorks console. In the top navigation bar, select the desired region. In the left-side navigation pane, choose More > Management Center. On the page that appears, select the desired workspace from the drop-down list and click Go to Management Center.

  2. In the navigation pane on the left, click Alert Settings > Alert Contacts to go to the Alert Contacts page.

On this page, you can set a RAM user or RAM role as an alert contact. If an error occurs when a task runs, DataWorks sends an alert message in the specified language, such as Chinese or English, to the mobile phone or email address of the alert contact. This helps you find and handle the error promptly. You can also configure an alternate alert contact. If an alert message cannot be delivered to the alert contact, the platform forwards the message to the alternate alert contact.

Set a RAM user as an alert contact

On the RAM User tab, you can view the RAM users added by the current account, along with their display names, mobile numbers, and email addresses. If a RAM user does not have a Mobile Phone Number or Email Address configured, they are not set as an alert contact and will not receive alert messages from DataWorks when a monitoring job generates an alert.

Important

If the target RAM user is not displayed in the user list, make sure that the user has been added to a workspace.

On the Alert Contacts page, you can customize the contact method (mobile number or email address) and alert language for an alert contact.

  1. In the Operation column, click Edit for the target RAM user.

  2. For the alert contact, set the Mobile Phone Number and Email Address, and select an Alerting Language.

For Alert Language, you can select Auto, Chinese, or English.

    Note
    • You must add a country code. For example, a mobile number in the Chinese mainland must start with the country code 86.

    • Phone call alerts are supported only for mobile numbers in the Chinese mainland. If an account on the Alibaba Cloud International Website uses a mobile number from the Chinese mainland to receive alerts, only Chinese text messages are supported.

If you select Auto, the platform selects the language based on the site where you registered your Alibaba Cloud account:

    • Alibaba Cloud China Website: The alert language is Chinese.

    • Alibaba Cloud International Website and other sites: The alert language is English.

  3. Click Confirm to add the contact method.

After a contact method is added, its status is Waiting for Activation. The method becomes effective only after it is activated.

  4. Activate the contact method.

After you configure the mobile number or email address for the alert contact, you will receive a text message or email. Follow the instructions in the message or email to activate the contact method.

    Note
    • The configured contact method takes effect only after it is activated.

    • The activation link in the text message or email is valid for 24 hours. You must check your phone or email and activate the contact method promptly.

Set a RAM role as an alert contact

On the RAM Role tab, you can view a list of RAM roles for the current account, including their mobile numbers and email addresses. If a Mobile Phone Number or Email Address is not configured for a RAM role, it is not set as an alert contact. DataWorks will not send alert messages to this RAM role when a monitoring job generates an alert.

To set a RAM role as an alert contact, perform the following steps.

  1. Click Edit in the Operation column for the target RAM role.

After a contact method is added, its status changes to Waiting for Activation.

Set an alternate alert contact

If an alert message fails to be sent because the recipient's contact information is incorrect, the platform automatically forwards the alert to the alternate alert contact. The alternate alert contact can be a RAM user or RAM role in the DataWorks workspace.
