Tablestore:Data backup

Last Updated:Dec 04, 2024

To prevent important data from being unavailable due to accidental deletion or malicious tampering, you can use Cloud Backup to back up data in wide tables of Tablestore instances on a regular basis and restore lost or damaged data at your earliest opportunity.

Background information

Cloud Backup is a unified platform that is developed by Alibaba Cloud for backup and disaster recovery. Cloud Backup is an easy-to-use data management service that is deployed on the public cloud to offer high agility, efficiency, security, and reliability. You can use Cloud Backup to back up data to a backup vault from Elastic Computing Service (ECS) instances, ECS databases, file systems, NAS clusters, OSS buckets, Tablestore instances, and data centers that store files, databases, virtual machines (VMs), and large-scale NAS file systems. You can also use the backup data for disaster recovery and archive data based on the archive policies that you configure for the preceding resources. For more information, see What is Cloud Backup?

The Tablestore console integrates the Tablestore backup feature of Cloud Backup. This allows you to back up data in Tablestore, restore data to Tablestore, and specify an alert notification method for a backup plan. The data backup feature is suitable for the following scenarios: disaster recovery, restoration upon accidental deletion or malicious tampering, data versioning, legal compliance, and data migration.

You can back up important data in data tables of a Tablestore instance to Cloud Backup by configuring and running a backup plan for the tables. This way, you can use the backup data to restore the important data that is accidentally deleted or maliciously tampered with to Tablestore at your earliest opportunity.

Usage notes

  • The data backup feature is available in the following regions: China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), China (Shenzhen), China (Beijing), China (Zhangjiakou), China (Hohhot), and China (Hong Kong).

  • The data backup feature is applicable to the Wide Column model. For more information about the Wide Column model, see Wide Column model.

Prerequisites

  • Cloud Backup is activated. For more information, see Activate Cloud Backup.

  • The Tablestore instance and data table that you want to back up are available.

Procedure

  1. Create a backup plan for specific data tables in a Tablestore instance, and run the backup plan on a regular basis to back up important data in the Tablestore instance to a backup vault of Cloud Backup. For more information, see Back up data in Tablestore.

  2. If data in a Tablestore table is accidentally deleted or maliciously tampered with, you can restore data from the backup vault of Cloud Backup to Tablestore. For more information, see Restore data to Tablestore.

  3. If you want to monitor the status of a backup plan and receive alert notifications when a backup job fails, specify an alert notification method for the backup plan. For more information, see Specify an alert notification method for a backup plan.

Backup information overview

Cloud Backup provides a dashboard on the Data Backup page of Tablestore. You can view the backup information about your Tablestore resources. For example, you can view the number of protected Tablestore instances, the number of unprotected Tablestore instances, the number of protected tables, the size of protected tables, the number of backup jobs, and the total storage usage of the backup vaults that are used by Tablestore instances.
