Cloud Backup:Billing methods and billable items

Last Updated:Dec 05, 2024

This topic describes the billing methods and fees of Cloud Backup, and the billable items and prices for various data sources.

Billing methods

Cloud Backup supports only the pay-as-you-go billing method.

  • You are charged only for the resources that you use.

  • Bills are generated on an hourly basis and payments are settled on a monthly basis.

  • By default, you are billed for Cloud Backup based on the pay-as-you-go billing method after you activate Cloud Backup.

Billable items

ECS Backup Essential Edition and the standard backup features of Cloud Backup have different billable items.

Important

You are not charged for activating Cloud Backup. You are charged for using the backup features of Cloud Backup.

Billable items of the standard backup features

The following tables describe the billable items of Cloud Backup.

  • Backup fees

    Fee

    Billable item

    Billing method

    Unit price

    Client usage fee

    • Cloud Backup clients for file backup

You are charged based on the number of servers or Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances on which the Cloud Backup client is installed.

      Note
      • If a Cloud Backup client is activated but no backup is performed, you are not charged for the Cloud Backup client.

      • If a Cloud Backup client runs as expected and backup data exists on the client, you are charged for the Cloud Backup client.

      • If a Cloud Backup client is uninstalled but backup data is still retained, you are charged for the Cloud Backup client.

Billing is stopped only when all the backup data generated by the client is deleted or automatically cleared after expiration.

    • Cloud Backup clients for SAP HANA instance backup

You are charged based on the number of instances on which the Cloud Backup client is installed.

    • Cloud Backup clients for ECS instance backup

You are charged based on the number of ECS instances that are specified in a backup plan. The fees for the storage usage of ECS snapshots that are used by this feature are included into your snapshot service bills. If you enable cross-region replication, the fees for the storage usage of ECS snapshots that are replicated to the destination region and the fees for cross-region traffic are also included into your snapshot service bills.

    • Cloud Backup clients for Object Storage Service (OSS) backup, File Storage NAS (NAS) backup, and Tablestore backup

      Free of charge

    • Cloud Backup clients for VMware backup

You are charged based on the disk size allocated to the source virtual machine (VM).

    • Cloud Backup clients for ECS disaster recovery

You can use the ECS disaster recovery feature free of charge for 30 days. You are charged for the ECS instances, the Elastic Block Storage (EBS) disks, and the ECS snapshots that are used when you implement disaster recovery for ECS resources.

    • Migration of VMs to the cloud

You are charged based on the number of migrated VMs.

    • Cloud Backup clients for SQL Server database backup (old version)

You are charged based on the number of instances on which the Cloud Backup client is installed.

    Pay-as-you-go

The pricing is the same for all regions. For more information about the pay-as-you-go billing method, see Cloud Backup Pricing.

    Storage usage fee

    • Usage of backup vaults

Cloud Backup deduplicates and compresses data for backup. You are charged for the backup storage based on the storage space occupied by the data that is deduplicated and compressed. You can back up an OSS bucket or a NAS file system free of charge within 30 days after you create a backup plan.

    • Usage of the Archive tier for backup vaults

Backup vaults are automatically archived. You are charged based on the size of the source data that is transferred from the Standard tier to the Archive tier. The minimum billable size of the data stored at the Archive tier is 1 MB. For a source object or file whose size is less than or equal to 1 MB, you are charged based on 1 MB. For a source object or file whose size is greater than 1 MB, you are charged based on the actual size.

    • Volume of data restored from the Archive tier for backup vaults

If you restore data from a recovery point at the Archive tier, you are charged based on the actual size of the restored data. The minimum billable size of the data stored at the Archive tier is 1 MB. For an object or file whose size is less than 1 MB, you are charged based on 1 MB. For an object or file whose size is greater than or equal to 1 MB, you are charged based on the actual size.

    Note

Mirror vaults can be used in the same way as backup vaults. The pricing for the storage usage of backup vaults is the same as the pricing for the storage usage of mirror vaults.

    Pay-as-you-go

The pricing is the same for all regions. For more information about the pay-as-you-go billing method, see Cloud Backup Pricing.
