:Create a member

Last Updated:Mar 01, 2024

A member can be a resource account or cloud account. Members that are created in a resource directory are resource accounts. A resource account is used to isolate the resources of a project or application on Alibaba Cloud from other resources. Resource accounts do not have root users and provide higher security. A root user of an Alibaba Cloud account is the administrator of the account.

Limits

For information about the limit on the number of members that can be created in a resource directory, see Limits on resource directories.

Methods

  • In the left-side navigation pane of the Resource Management console, choose Resource Directory > Overview. On the Organization tab of the page that appears, create a member in an existing folder. Alternatively, you can create a folder and create a member in the new folder.

  • In the left-side navigation pane of the Resource Management console, choose Resource Directory > Overview. On the page that appears, click the Members tab. On this tab, click Create Member to create a member. The created member belongs to the Root folder by default. You can move the member to your desired folder.

  • In the left-side navigation pane of the Resource Management console, choose Resource Directory > Create Member. On the page that appears, create a member. The created member belongs to the Root folder by default. You can move the member to your desired folder. This topic describes this method.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Resource Management console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resource Directory > Create Member.

  3. On the Create Member page, configure the parameters.

    • Alibaba Cloud Account Name: the name of the member. The name must be unique in the current resource directory. The name must be 2 to 50 characters in length and can contain letters, digits, and the following special characters: underscores (_), periods (.), and hyphens (-). The name must start and end with a letter or digit and cannot contain consecutive special characters.

    • Display Name: the display name of the member. The display name must be 2 to 50 characters in length and can contain letters, digits, and the following special characters: underscores (_), periods (.), and hyphens (-).

    • Settlement: the payment method of the member.

      • Use Management Account for Settlement of New Member: If you select this option, the management account of the resource directory is used as the billing account of the member that is being created.

      • Use Existing Member for Settlement of New Member: If you select this option, you must select an existing member from the panel that appears. This member is used as the billing account of the member that is being created.

        Note

A member that does not have the payment capability cannot be selected. For information about how to determine whether a member has the payment capability, see Trusteeship overview.

      • Use New Member Itself for Settlement: If you select this option, the member that is being created is used as its billing account.

    • Tag: This parameter is optional. You can add tags to the member. This way, you can manage the member based on the tags.

  4. Click OK.

Result

  • The newly created member inherits the legal entity of the management account for the resource directory. This indicates that the real-name verification information of the member is consistent with the real-name verification information of the management account.

  • The system creates a RAM role named ResourceDirectoryAccountAccessRole for the member and assigns the role to the management account. This way, you can use the management account to manage the member in a centralized manner.

What to do next

  • Move the member to a specific folder: By default, a member created by using the method described in this topic belongs to the Root folder. You can use the management account to move the member to another folder in the resource directory based on your business requirements. The location change of a member does not affect the resources within the member. For more information, see Move a member.

  • Use the member to log on to the Alibaba Cloud Management Console. A newly created member has a username but does not have a password. You need to log on to the Alibaba Cloud Management Console by using a RAM user or RAM role. For more information, see Use a member to log on to the Alibaba Cloud Management Console.
