In PolarDB, compute and storage resources are decoupled. The resources can be billed by using the pay-as-you-go or subscription billing method. This topic describes how to switch the storage billing method of a cluster.
Prerequisites
Your cluster is in the Running state.
If your cluster uses the subscription compute and subscription storage billing methods, you cannot switch the compute billing method to pay-as-you-go. You can first switch the storage billing method from subscription to pay-as-to-go and then switch the compute billing method from subscription to pay-as-you-go.
If you want to switch the storage billing method from subscription to pay-as-you-go, make sure that your account has sufficient balance to prevent service downtime due to overdue payments.
A serverless cluster supports only the pay-as-you-go storage billing method. You cannot switch the storage billing method to subscription.
Switching rules
Switching rules for Enterprise Edition clusters
If a cluster uses the pay-as-you-go compute billing method, the storage billing method of the cluster must be pay-as-you-go. If a cluster uses the subscription compute billing method, the storage billing method of the cluster can be pay-as-you-go or subscription.
The following figure shows the switching rules for the storage billing method of a PolarDB Enterprise Edition cluster.
If a cluster uses the subscription compute billing method, the storage billing method of the cluster can be pay-as-you-go or subscription.
[Subscription compute billing method and pay-as-you-go storage billing method]: You can change the billing method combination to pay-as-you-go compute billing method and pay-as-you-go storage billing method.
[Subscription compute billing method and pay-as-you-go storage billing method] or [Subscription compute billing method and Subscription storage billing method]: You can independently change the storage billing method.
If a cluster uses the pay-as-you-go compute billing method, the storage billing method of the cluster must be pay-as-you-go.
[Pay-as-you-go compute billing method and pay-as-you-go storage billing method]: You can change the billing method combination to subscription compute billing method and pay-as-you-go storage billing method.
Refunding
After you switch the storage billing method of a cluster from subscription to pay-as-you-go, a subscription amount is refunded to your original payment account. Take note that only the actual paid amount is refunded to the original payment channel. Vouchers or coupons that are deemed cannot be refunded.
Impacts
The running of clusters is not affected by a change to the storage billing method.
Procedure
Switch the storage billing method
If a cluster uses the subscription compute billing method, you can switch the storage billing method of the cluster between pay-as-you-go and subscription. To switch the storage billing method, perform the following steps:
Log on to the PolarDB console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Clusters.
In the upper-left corner, select the region in which the cluster is deployed.
Find the cluster whose storage billing method you want to change and choose or in the Actions column.
Switch the storage billing method from subscription to pay-as-you-go:

If you want to switch the storage billing method to Subscription, you must select a storage space size in the dialog box that appears.
Set the Switching Time parameter to Switch Now or Switch At.
If you select Switch At, you can specify a point in time within the next 24 hours. The storage billing method is switched within 30 minutes after the specified point in time.
On the Scheduled Tasks page, you can view the details of the task or cancel the task. For more information, see Scheduled tasks.
Read and select the terms of service, and then click Buy Now.
