:ACU-hour plans

Last Updated:Aug 13, 2024

AnalyticDB compute unit (ACU)-hour plans are a subscription pricing model that you can use to offset the amount of consumed resources in AnalyticDB for MySQL. During the validity period of an ACU-hour plan, the amount of resources that are consumed by Data Lakehouse Edition clusters is offset from the ACU-hour plan on an hourly basis. This topic describes ACU-hour plans and how to use ACU-hour plans.

Offset description

Offset objects

  • Reserved computing resources, reserved storage resources, and elastic resources of pay-as-you-go Data Lakehouse Edition clusters.

  • Elastic resources of subscription Data Lakehouse Edition clusters.

Offset rules

  • You can use an ACU-hour plan to offset the amount of resources that are consumed by a cluster that resides in the same region as the plan.

  • You can use the same ACU-hour plan for multiple clusters that reside in the same region.

  • Resources are offset from ACU-hour plans based on the following order: elastic resources of pay-as-you-go Data Lakehouse Edition clusters > reserved computing resources of pay-as-you-go Data Lakehouse Edition clusters > reserved storage resources of pay-as-you-go Data Lakehouse Edition clusters > elastic resources of subscription Data Lakehouse Edition clusters.

  • During the validity period of an ACU-hour plan, the amount of resources that are consumed by clusters is offset from the ACU-hour plan on an hourly basis. Additional resources beyond the ACU-hour plan are billed based on the pay-as-you-go billing method.

  • The validity period of an ACU-hour plan is one month. After the validity period of an ACU-hour plan elapses, you cannot use the remaining resources of the plan. For example, if you purchase an ACU-hour plan on April 20, the plan is not valid from 00:00:00 of May 21.

  • You can purchase and renew ACU-hour plans and use multiple ACU-hour plans at the same time. You cannot refund, upgrade, or downgrade ACU-hour plans.

Offset examples

  • Example 1

You purchase a subscription Data Lakehouse Edition cluster in the China (Hangzhou) region. The subscription duration is three months.

    • Reserved computing resources: 32 ACUs.

    • Reserved storage resources: 24 ACUs.

    • Elastic resources: A resource scaling plan of the interactive resource group type is used to scale 16 ACUs of resources for 5 hours each time. The resource scaling plan is executed four time every month.

    • ACU-hour plan: An ACU-hour plan that provides 1,000 ACU-hours is purchased. The subscription duration is three months.

Offset method: For a subscription cluster, you can use ACU-hour plans to offset only the amount of elastic resources. During the 3-month subscription duration, 1,000 ACU-hours are allocated per month to offset 320 ACU-hours of elastic resources that are consumed by the cluster. The remaining 680 ACU-hours in the ACU-hour plan become invalid.

  • Example 2

You purchase a pay-as-you-go Data Lakehouse Edition cluster in the China (Hangzhou) region. The cluster is used for one month.

    • Reserved computing resources: 32 ACUs.

    • Reserved storage resources: 24 ACUs.

    • Elastic resources: A job resource group that provides 0 ACUs of reserved resources is created. The job resource group is used to run a Spark job that uses 2 cores and 4 GB memory (2 × 0.8 ACUs) for 10 hours.

    • ACU-hour plans: Three ACU-hour plans that each provide 10,000 ACU-hours is purchased. The subscription duration is one month.

The following resources are consumed within one month:

    • Reserved computing resources: 32 ACUs × 30 days × 24 hours = 23,040 ACU-hours.

    • Reserved storage resources: 24 ACUs × 30 days × 24 hours = 17,280 ACU-hours.

    • Elastic resources: 2 × 0.8 ACUs × 10 hours = 16 ACU-hours.

    Total resources consumed = 23,040 ACU-hours + 17,280 ACU-hours +16 ACU-hours = 40,336 ACU-hours.

Offset method: For a pay-as-you-go cluster, you can use ACU-hour plans to offset the amount of reserved computing resources, reserved storage resources, and elastic resources. The ACU-hour plans are used to offset a total of 30,000 ACU-hours of resources, and you are charged for the additional 10,336 ACU-hours based on the pay-as-you-go billing method.

Purchase an ACU-hour plan

  1. Log on to the AnalyticDB for MySQL console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Clusters.

  3. In the upper-right corner of the page, click Buy Cluster.

  4. Set the Product Type parameter to ACU-hour Plan.

  5. Configure the parameters that are described in the following table and click Buy Now in the lower-right corner.

    Parameter

    Description

    Plan Type

    The ACU-hour plan.

    Region

The region in which your Data Lakehouse Edition cluster resides.

    Resource Plan Specification

The specifications of the ACU-hour plan. Valid values:

    • 200

    • 1,000

    • 5,000

    • 10,000

    • 50,000

Higher specifications of ACU-hour plans offer more savings.

    Quantity

The number of ACU-hour plans that you want to purchase.

    Subscription Duration

The period of time for which you want to use the ACU-hour plan.

A quota of resources (ACU-hour plan specifications × purchase quantity) is allocated per month. The remaining quota cannot be carried over to the next month, and the quota is reset when the next month starts. For example, you purchase an ACU-hour plan that provides 1,000 ACU-hours on May 1 for three months. In this case, you can use 1,000 ACU-hours to offset the amount of cluster resources per month in May, June, and July.

  6. On the Confirm Order page, check your order information, read and select the Terms of Service, and then complete the payment. If your payment is successful, the ACU-hour plan immediately takes effect.
