Preparation
Before using a third-party client to log on to your mailbox, confirm the account status to avoid configuration failures:
Alibaba Mail blocks third-party clients by default. To use one, ensure the mailbox administrator has not restricted third-party client logon for the account. For more information, see Set third-party client logon permissions.
Confirm the mailbox administrator has enabled POP3 or IMAP service permissions for the current account.
Enable and set a third-party client security password as the logon password for the third-party client.

Protocol selection recommendations:
IMAP (Recommended): Emails sync between clients and the web interface. Suitable for multi-device work.
POP3: Downloads emails only to the local device. Web operations do not affect the client. Suitable for scenarios where emails require local archiving.
For data security, configure SSL encryption ports when you log on to your mailbox.

FAQs
"Username or password error" appears during configuration, but I confirmed the password is correct.
Cause: If you enabled the "third-party client security password" feature—or your organization enforced it—do not enter your mailbox logon password here.
Solution: Generate a new "third-party client security password" and enter it in the client's "password" field.
Cannot connect to the server after checking SSL?
Cause: A common fault is selecting SSL encryption but retaining a non-encrypted port number, such as 110 or 143.
Solution: After selecting SSL, manually change the port number to the corresponding encrypted port, such as 993 for IMAP or 995 for POP3.
How do I determine my Alibaba Mail site?
