Virtual Private Cloud - Procedural Walkthrough

Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) in Alibaba Cloud is used to create an isolated network in the cloud to operate resources in a secure environment.

Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) in Alibaba Cloud is used to create an isolated network in the cloud to operate resources in a secure environment. It is free to use and provides a secure isolation of network environment, scalability and flexibility. In this blog we learn on how to create a VPC to provide solutions based on the given scenario.

Scenario
Alfredo is running two projects for his IT enabled services based in Manila. One project is for a retail outlet Jollytail which manages groceries and fashion and another one for Palawan hospital which constitutes general health, dental and cosmetic treatment. The engineers working on the project must be isolated within the organization.
Solution
Create two VPCs in Manila. One for Jollytail and another for Palawan hospital. Create vSwitches for groceries and fashion division of Jollytail-VPC and vSwitches for general health, dental and cosmetic for Palawan-VPC. Create ECS instances in these vSwitches. Set the security groups and check the functionality of the network system.
Procedure
Log on to Alibaba Cloud Account and enter the console and choose VPC.

Now a VPC for Jollytail and vSwitches for its sub units of grocery and fashion are created. Similarly, we create a VPC for Palawan hospital and vSwitches for general health, dental and cosmetic treatment are created.

Now create ECS instances in each of the vSwitches in these VPCs.

Now Alfred wants to check the connectivity of ECS within Jollytail’s VPC. Click on Jollytail’s grocery ECS and click connect.

Click on sign in now in workbench.

Enter password and login.

Check the connectivity of Jollytail’s ECS by pinging the IP address of each other.

Similarly check the connection between Jollytail and Palawan’s VPCs. The connection can’t be established as the ECS instances are isolated from each other by using VPCs. Either the command prompt will keep waiting for long time or the request gets timed out.
