Simple Application Server:Monitoring and logging

Last Updated:May 09, 2024

The robust monitoring and logging capabilities play a pivotal role in safeguarding service uptime, ensuring seamless business continuity and maintaining the overall health of your simple application servers. You can leverage the built-in monitoring capabilities to proactively gather monitoring data on an ongoing basis. Alibaba Cloud offers a suite of monitoring and log auditing services, including CloudMonitor and Cloud Config, which empower you to track resource utilization and service performance in real time. These services efficiently generate alerts, enabling prompt action to address any anomalies, thereby ensuring smooth operations.

Monitoring

Monitoring of simple application servers

Simple Application Server offers insights into key metrics such as data transfers, vCPU utilization, memory usage, network bandwidth utilization, and disk input/output (I/O) for efficient monitoring. For more information, see View the monitoring information of a simple application server.

CloudMonitor-based monitoring

Simple Application Server is integrated with CloudMonitor, a free-of-charge monitoring service provided by Alibaba Cloud. CloudMonitor empowers you to effortlessly monitor your cloud resources and online applications in real time. If you need insights into cloud resource performance and usage to safeguard website uptime or detect business disruptions, you can activate CloudMonitor.

Once activated, CloudMonitor automatically fetches data of your simple application servers. This integration lets you directly view monitoring charts of simple application servers in the CloudMonitor console, providing instant visibility into the operational health of the servers. You can also configure alert rules to receive notifications for any data anomalies. This allows you to promptly address potential issues.

  • For information about how to view the monitoring data of simple application servers by using CloudMonitor and how to configure alert rules, see Cloud service monitoring.

  • For information about the Simple Application Server metrics supported by CloudMonitor, see Metric List.

Effortlessly enable initiative alert

CloudMonitor simplifies monitoring by letting you easily enable initiative alert for multiple key metrics of Simple Application Server, which ensures proactive surveillance of your cloud resources. It streamlines the setup of a comprehensive monitoring system, keeping you informed about resource consumption and the overall health of your business operations. For more information, see Enable the initiative alert feature.

Configure custom alert rules

You can tailor monitoring reports to gather specific, custom metrics based on your unique requirements. For more information, see Manage the monitoring charts of a custom dashboard.

You can configure alert rules for each metric to receive important notifications by using multiple notification methods, including phone calls, text messages, emails, DingTalk chatbots, and the Alibaba Cloud app.

You can also create an alert blacklist to block alerts for specific metrics. For more information, see Manage blacklist policies.

ActionTrail

Simple Application Server is integrated with ActionTrail, which empowers you to centrally manage operational logs for all your cloud resources. ActionTrail documents user logons and access to resources within your Alibaba Cloud account. With ActionTrail, you gain capabilities for in-depth security analysis, real-time intrusion detection, efficient tracking of resource changes, and conducting compliance audits.

You can effortlessly manage log data related to accessing and utilizing cloud services and resources by using the ActionTrail console, API operations, and developer tools. For information about the supported audit events, see Audit events of Simple Application Server.

ActionTrail automatically records and stores event data for the previous 90 days. For extended retention beyond this period, you need to create a trail that delivers events to a Simple Log Service Logstore or an Object Storage Service (OSS) bucket. For more information, see Use the advanced event query feature to query events.

After you create a trail to deliver events to a Simple Log Service Logstore or an OSS bucket, you can query or analyze the events in the Simple Log Service or OSS console. For more information, see Query events in the Simple Log Service or OSS console.

If you want to trace historical events, submit a ticket to request the required permissions.

Operational logs

Simple Application Server operational logs

On the Operation Records page of your simple application server, you can easily access a comprehensive log collection of past actions performed on the server. This includes events like server startups, shutdowns, restarts, password modifications, and system resets. You can utilize these detailed operational records to effectively diagnose and resolve any server-related issues. For more information, see View the operation records of a server.
