Deep Cold Archive provides high-durability storage at low prices. This storage class is suitable for extremely cold data that needs to be stored for an ultra-long period of time. This topic describes the best practices for using the Deep Cold Archive storage class to avoid additional costs and help you use Deep Cold Archive in a more cost-effective manner.
Convert the storage class of objects to Deep Cold Archive based on lifecycle rules
To avoid high PUT request fees, we recommend that you upload Standard objects and then convert them to Deep Cold Archive based on lifecycle rules. We recommend that you do not directly upload Deep Cold Archive objects. If you convert the storage class of Standard objects to Deep Cold Archive based on lifecycle rules, you are charged based on the number of PUT requests for the Standard objects.
For information about how to convert the storage class of objects based on lifecycle rules, see Overview.
Delete Deep Cold Archive objects based on lifecycle rules
You can call the DeleteObject operation to manually delete a Deep Cold Archive object. In this case, you are charged for a PUT request after you successfully call the DeleteObject operation. To prevent you from being charged for PUT requests when you delete Deep Cold Archive objects, we recommend that you configure lifecycle rules to automatically delete Deep Cold Archive objects. The ExpireObject operation is called to automatically delete Deep Cold Archive objects based on lifecycle rules. In this case, you are not charged for PUT requests.
For more information, see PUT requests.
Meet the minimum storage duration requirements for objects
To avoid unnecessary costs, we recommend that you make sure that the objects before and after the conversion to Deep Cold Archive meet the minimum storage duration requirements.
The following table lists the minimum storage duration for each storage class.
Storage class | Minimum storage duration |
IA | 30 days |
Archive | 60 days |
Cold Archive | 180 days |
Deep Cold Archive | 180 days |
For information about the storage usage for objects that are stored for less than the minimum storage duration, see Storage fees.
