Edge Security Acceleration:Cache reserve

Last Updated:Nov 25, 2024

Edge Security Acceleration (ESA) provides the cache reserve feature to converge origin requests. After you enable the feature, cache reserve points of presence (POPs) serve as top-tier cache for your resources. This allows ESA to retrieve resources from cache reserve POPs, which eliminates unnecessary outbound traffic fees. Cache reserve POPs reserve space for storage. Resources stored on cache reserve POPs are not overwritten by other frequently requested resources.

Overview

The cache reserve feature is suitable for scenarios in which the cache hit ratio is low. For scenarios in which the cache hit ratio is high, you can configure a cache rule to bypass cache reserve for specific requests. This helps reduce storage costs. For information about cache rules, see Configure cache reserve eligibility.

Prerequisites

A cache reserve instance is purchased. Before you enable cache reserve, contact your account manager or submit a ticket to apply for a cache reserve instance that has a specific storage capacity in the region that is closest to the origin server.

Manage the lifecycle of cache reserve instances

  1. Purchase an instance

You are charged for cache reserve instances on a subscription basis. To purchase a cache reserve instance, contact your account manager or submit a ticket. After you purchase a cache reserve instance that resides in a specific region and has a specific storage capacity, ESA automatically creates the instance.

  2. Change the storage capacity of an instance

If you want to increase or decrease the capacity of a cache reserve instance, contact your account manager or submit a ticket.

  3. Release an instance

If you do not renew a subscription cache reserve instance, the instance is automatically released after it expires. Cached resources on the cache reserve POPs become invalid.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the ESA console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Websites.

  3. On the Websites page, find the website that you want to manage, and click the website name or View Details in the Actions column.

  4. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Caching > Cache Reserve.

  5. In the Cache Reserve section, click Configure.

  6. Turn on the Status switch.

  7. In the instance list, select a cache reserve instance.

You must select a cache reserve instance that resides in the region that is closest to the origin server. For example, if the origin server resides in the China (Hong Kong) region, select a cache reserve instance that resides in the region. If no cache reserve instance is available in the region where cache reserve is required, you can contact your account manager or submit a ticket to request an instance.

    Note

If you no longer require cache reserve, disable it at the earliest opportunity. It takes 3 to 5 minutes to actually disable the feature after you switch the status toggle to off. After the feature is disabled, requests to the origin do not pass through cache reserve POPs.

  8. Click OK. After you enable the cache reserve feature, the feature requires 3 to 5 minutes to take effect.

Feature availability

You are charged for the cache reserve feature on a subscription basis. The cache reserve feature is available only in Enterprise plans.
