This topic provides answers to some commonly asked questions about IP Application Accelerator (IPA).
- What are the differences between IPA and DCDN?
- Can IPA accelerate HTTP and HTTPS requests?
- What is required to set up a website with IPA? A domain name or IP address?
- Where are the IPA POPs distributed?
- How does IPA ensure the nearest POP is used to serve requests?
- Am I charged for traffic and HTTP requests in both IPA and DCDN?
What are the differences between IPA and DCDN?
- IPA accelerates TCP and UDP-based applications, such as those based on FTP, HTTPS, and email protocols. You can specify custom ports as needed.
- Dynamic Content Delivery Network (DCDN) provides Layer 7 acceleration for traffic over HTTP and HTTPS. The available ports are 80 and 443.
Can IPA accelerate HTTP and HTTPS requests?
Yes, IPA can accelerate HTTP and HTTPS requests because both HTTP and HTTPS are based on TCP.
If you use IPA to accelerate your HTTPS service, you do not need to deploy SSL certificates on the IPA page or pay for HTTPS requests.
What is required to set up a website with IPA? A domain name or IP address?
A domain name is required.
Where are the IPA POPs distributed?
Points of presence (POPs) used by IPA are widely distributed across China, which ensures nearby access for users. Also, IPA provides network transmission within the same Internet service provider (ISP) as the users, delivering a responsive and low-latency experience.
How does IPA ensure the nearest POP is used to serve requests?
After you add and configure your domain name in the DCDN console, Alibaba Cloud resolves the domain name to the IP addresses of its POPs and routes user requests to POPs that use the same ISP as the users and are geographically closer to the users. This smart scheduling approach reduces network jitter and latency.
Am I charged for traffic and HTTP requests in both IPA and DCDN?
No. IPA is billed separately. Specifically, you are charged for the traffic that is accelerated by using IPA and not charged for HTTP requests.
