This topic describes how to purchase reserved instances in the Elastic Compute Service (ECS) console.
Prerequisites
Before you purchase reserved instances, make sure that the pay-as-you-go instances that you want to match meet the requirements for using reserved instances. For more information, see Overview.
You cannot manually manage how reserved instances and pay-as-you-go instances are matched. Make sure that you understand the matching rules for reserved instances. For more information, see Match between reserved instances and pay-as-you-go instances.
Procedure
Log on to the ECS console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
In the top navigation bar, select the region and resource group to which the resource belongs.
Click Purchase Now, or click Use and then click Purchase Reserved Instances.
Follow the on-screen instructions to purchase a reserved instance based on your business requirements.
Take note of the parameters described in the following table. For information about other parameters, see the instance buy page.
A reserved instance of the Reserved type is a zonal reserved instance.
A zonal reserved instance can be used to offset the bills of pay-as-you-go instances that have matching attributes in a single zone (the zone of the reserved instance).
A reserved instance of the Not Reserved type is a regional reserved instance.
A regional reserved instance can be used to offset the bills of pay-as-you-go instances that have matching attributes across zones within a specific region (the region of the reserved instance).
