Before you use DataWorks, you must prepare an Alibaba Cloud account. This topic describes how to prepare an Alibaba Cloud account.
Register an Alibaba Cloud account
Go to the Alibaba Cloud official website. Click Free Account in the upper-right corner. On the page that appears, register an Alibaba Cloud account as prompted. For more information, see Create an Alibaba Cloud account.
You can log on to the DataWorks console with an Alibaba Cloud account or as a RAM user.
Alibaba Cloud account: An Alibaba Cloud account owns Alibaba Cloud resources and has all permissions on resources within the account. Resource usage is calculated and billed to the Alibaba Cloud account. You can use the Alibaba Cloud account to create RAM users for your enterprise, manage the RAM users, and grant permissions to the RAM users. To ensure the security of your account, we recommend that you change your password on a regular basis. Do not share your account with other users.
RAM user: A RAM user is created and managed by an Alibaba Cloud account in Resource Access Management (RAM). A RAM user does not own resources and does not support independent billing. Resources used by a RAM user are billed to the Alibaba Cloud account to which the RAM user belongs.
Perform real-name verification for an Alibaba Cloud account
Log on to the Alibaba Cloud Management Console, move the pointer over your profile picture in the upper-right corner, and then click Real-name Verification. On the page that appears, perform real-name verification for the Alibaba Cloud account you registered.
To ensure that subsequent operations can be performed as expected, you must complete real-name verification for your Alibaba Cloud account.
