Cloud Backup:Differences between ECS Backup Essential Edition and the standard backup features of Cloud Backup

Last Updated:Apr 30, 2024

This topic describes the differences between ECS Backup Essential Edition and the standard backup features provided by Cloud Backup, such as Elastic Compute Service (ECS) file backup, ECS database backup, and ECS instance backup.

To meet the backup and restoration requirements of different users, Cloud Backup provides ECS Backup Essential Edition.

  • ECS Backup Essential Edition

ECS Backup Essential Edition is a subscription service provided by Cloud Backup to protect ECS data. ECS Backup Essential Edition supports basic backup for ECS files, ECS-hosted databases including MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server databases, and ECS instances. ECS Backup Essential Edition is suitable for small and medium-sized customers or developers who need to back up and restore ECS data and meet compliance requirements. For more information, see What is ECS Backup Essential Edition?

  • Standard backup features of Cloud Backup

Cloud Backup provides independent standard backup features such as ECS file backup, ECS database backup, SAP HANA backup, and ECS instance backup. Cloud Backup provides comprehensive enterprise-class backup capabilities and is suitable for scenarios that require enterprise-class backup policies for large data volumes and complex backup data.

The following table describes the differences between ECS Backup Essential Edition and the standard backup features of Cloud Backup. You can select backup solutions based on your business requirements.

Item

Standard backup features of Cloud Backup

ECS Backup Essential Edition

Scenarios

Suitable for scenarios that are featured by large data volumes and complex conditions and have enterprise-class requirements such as low recovery point objectives (RPOs), fine granularity, long-term retention, and remote backup.

Suitable only for scenarios that require simple backup and restoration of ECS files, ECS-hosted databases, and ECS instances.

Billable items

Different backup scenarios involve different billable items, such as Cloud Backup clients for backup and usage of backup vaults. For more information, see Billing methods and billable items.

Only the subscription instance of ECS Backup Essential Edition is involved. If the amount of ECS data to be backed up exceeds 500 GB, the backup is stopped. No additional fee is incurred. If you use the ECS instance backup feature, the snapshot fee is included into your snapshot service bill.

Billing method

Pay-as-you-go or resource plans

Only the subscription instance of ECS Backup Essential Edition is billed.

Requirements for source data volumes

Unlimited

The total data amount of the ECS files and databases to be backed must not exceed 500 GB. The disk size is not limited.

Features

Supports enterprise-class backup features, including ECS file backup, ECS database backup, ECS instance backup, and SAP HANA backup. Supports full backup, incremental backup, log backup, and real-time backup for databases.

Supports the backup and restoration of ECS files, ECS-hosted databases, and ECS instances. The features of ECS Backup Essential Edition are subsets of the standard backup features provided by Cloud Backup.

Backup policy

Supports custom backup policies, such as the backup frequency and the retention period. For example, some data sources can be backed up at an interval of several minutes. Backup data can be retained for any period of time. Early backups can be retained sparsely and recent backups can be retained densely.

A fixed policy is used. Data is backed up once a day and retained for 30 days. You cannot customize a policy.

Enterprise-class features

Cross-region backup, cross-account backup, automatic archiving, Key Management Service (KMS) encryption, and immutable backup.
