What can I do if the "Failed to initialize the backup client" error message appears on a backup client for Windows? - Cloud Backup

Symptoms

When you install a backup client on an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance or an on-premises server, the "Failed to initialize the backup client" error message appears.

Causes

The backup component that you select is not applicable to the host on which you want to install the backup client.

If you back up on-premises files, select the Local client connecting to Alibaba Cloud component.
If you back up ECS files, select the ECS on Alibaba Cloud component.

Solutions

Reselect the component and install the client.

Confirm whether you want to back up files from an on-premises server or an ECS instance.
Select a backup component that is applicable to the host on which you want to install the backup client. Then, install the backup client again.
- Back up on-premises files
  Select the Local client connecting to Alibaba Cloud component.

- Back up ECS files
  Select the ECS on Alibaba Cloud component.
