If a pay-as-you-go Managed Service for Prometheus bill becomes overdue, your instances enter a 7-day grace period. After the grace period, metric data collection stops and your instances and data are eventually released.
When a bill becomes overdue
A bill is marked overdue when a payment attempt fails due to insufficient account balance and the payment is not manually settled by the end of the billing day.
How you are notified
On the day a bill becomes overdue, Managed Service for Prometheus notifies you through email, text message, or internal message.
What happens to your instances
| Timeline | Service behavior | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Days 1–7 after overdue status | Metric data collection continues normally | Add funds to your Alibaba Cloud account to preserve all instances and data |
| After day 7 | Metric data collection stops; instances and data are released after the data retention period expires | Not recoverable after release |
Within 7 days: Managed Service for Prometheus continues to collect metric data from your instances. If you settle the overdue payment during this period, all instances and data are preserved.
After 7 days: Managed Service for Prometheus stops collecting metric data. Once the data retention period expires with no incoming data, your instances and data are released.
In other words, you have a 7-day window to settle the payment and fully preserve your service. After that window closes, data loss is permanent once the retention period expires.
Released resources and data cannot be recovered.
