Imagine walking into a hackathon room full of strangers and walking out with a potential solution to a global environmental crisis. That's exactly what happened with Team Tahu Bulat.

"We didn't even know each other's names when the day started," our team would joke later. When JABAR Digital Services and Komdigi presented waste management as one of the key problem statements, we found our mission. The hackathon became our spontaneous launchpad—in the pressure cooker of this onsite competition, we came together, united by a shared passion to tackle this real-world problem with cutting-edge technology. Within hours, strangers became collaborators, and by the end of the hackathon, Smart WDD was born.

The Hidden Crisis Beneath Our Feet

During the hackathon, one key problem statement shared by JABAR Digital Services and Komdigi caught our attention immediately: waste management. This wasn't just a theoretical exercise—it represented a real and pressing challenge facing communities today.

Every year, millions of tons of waste vanish from legitimate disposal channels only to reappear in forests, waterways, and abandoned lots. These illegal dump sites aren't just eyesores—they're ticking environmental time bombs:

● Toxic chemicals seep into groundwater

● Wildlife habitats become death traps

● Local communities face increased health risks

● Cleanup costs drain public resources

Our Solution

Smart WDD transforms how we detect and respond to illegal dumping through a simple but powerful approach:

  1. Satellite Monitoring: Continuous surveillance across large areas
  2. AI Detection: Machine learning models identify waste dumping signatures
  3. Intelligent Reporting: Generative AI creates detailed analysis reports
  4. Action Dashboard: Intuitive interface for environmental agencies

Alibaba Cloud Technologies

The power of Smart WDD comes from our unique combination of technologies, with Alibaba Cloud providing the critical foundation for our innovation:

Our detection engine runs on Alibaba Model Studio, where we've fine-tuned Qwen models to become experts in identifying waste dump signatures from satellite imagery. These models don't just detect—they learn and improve, becoming more accurate with each analysis.

The Alibaba Cloud ecosystem provided exactly what we needed to bring our vision to life. Model Studio offered a comprehensive environment for developing and training our AI models, while Qwen's advanced natural language capabilities enabled us to transform raw detection data into actionable insights with clear explanations.

Future implementations will incorporate:

Platform for AI (PAI) for enhanced model capabilities

Elastic Compute Service (ECS) for scaling

● Big Data & Data Analytics tools for processing multiple data sources

● Security services for data protection

Technical Highlights

● Multi-source satellite data integration

● Transfer learning for dump site identification

● Predictive capabilities to identify potential future dumping locations

● Interpretable AI that explains findings in human-readable format
