Billing rules for data transfer - Global Accelerator

After you purchase a Global Accelerator (GA) instance whose bandwidth metering method is pay-by-data-transfer, you are charged for data transfer over the global transmission network of Alibaba Cloud. Data transfer fees are managed by Cloud Data Transfer (CDT). This topic describes the billing rules for data transfer.

Prerequisites

An Internet Content Provider (ICP) number is obtained for the service domain name if your service requires acceleration between regions in the Chinese mainland and regions outside the Chinese mainland, including China (Hong Kong), China (Macao), and China (Taiwan). Otherwise, you cannot use Global Accelerator. For information about how to apply for an ICP number, see Overview.

Billable items

The data transfer of a Global Accelerator instance whose bandwidth metering method is pay-by-data-transfer includes the following types:

The Internet data transfer between clients and the acceleration region.

- BGP (Multi-ISP): provides premium BGP lines across the globe. This is the default line type. BGP lines from different ISPs can be used. The optimal BGP line is automatically selected to ensure network stability.
  All acceleration regions support BGP (Multi-ISP).
- BGP Pro: BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines optimize data transmission to the Chinese mainland and improve connection quality for international services. Cross-border connections are established by using Chinese mainland ISP services when BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines provide services to users in the Chinese mainland (except data centers). This reduces network latency.
  BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro is available only in the China (Hong Kong) and Japan (Tokyo) regions.
The data transfer between the acceleration region and the endpoint group over the acceleration network of GA.
Data transfer over the acceleration network of GA can be classified into the following types based on where the service is deployed:
- Inter-region data transfer: Data is transmitted between regions in the Chinese mainland or between regions outside the Chinese mainland.
- Cross-border data transfer: Data is transmitted between regions in the Chinese mainland and regions outside the Chinese mainland, including China (Hong Kong), China (Macao), and China (Taiwan).
  Transmission network types that can be used to accelerate content delivery between acceleration regions and endpoint groups across borders
  BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro: BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines are used to accelerate data transfer between regions in the Chinese mainland and regions outside the Chinese mainland. You do not need to perform enterprise real-name verification.
  Cross-border Express Connect: Cross-border Express Connect circuits provide better acceleration performance but require enterprise real-name verification.
Note
- The region where the service is deployed is determined by the configurations of the acceleration area and the endpoint group.
- If the acceleration region is the same as the region where the endpoint group is deployed, you are not charged for data transfer over the acceleration network of GA.
The Internet or internal data transfer between the endpoint group and the origin server.
Data is transmitted over the Internet or internal networks based on the method used to connect to the origin server. You are not charged for internal data transfer. For more information about the supported origin server connections, see What is GA?

Billing rules

The following table describes the billing rules for different types of data transfer.

Data transfer type	Billing rule	Pricing	Billing method
Internet data transfer	The Internet data transfer per month in each region is billed based on tiered pricing. The billing cycle for tiered pricing is one calendar month. The amount of Internet data transfer of your service is reset to 0 at the beginning of each month.	For more information about the pricing of Internet data transfer, see Internet data transfer.	Pay-as-you-go You are charged based on the actual amount of data transfer. Fees are deducted after data is transmitted. The bills are generated by CDT.
Inter-region data transfer	You are charged for the data transfer in each region. Content delivery is accelerated between regions in the Chinese mainland or regions outside the Chinese mainland.	The service level of inter-region data transfer of Global Accelerator is Gold. For more information, see Inter-region data transfer.
Cross-border data transfer	You are charged for the data transfer in each region. Content delivery is accelerated between regions in the Chinese mainland and regions outside the Chinese mainland, including China (Hong Kong), China (Macao), and China (Taiwan).	The fees for cross-border data transfer vary based on the selected transmission network type: BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro: The unit price is USD 0.96 per GB. Cross-border Express Connect circuits: This topic describes the billing of cross-border data transfer if you use BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro. Example 1: Clients in the Chinese mainland access an application deployed outside Alibaba Cloud in the Chinese mainland

In the following figure, the acceleration region is the China (Shanghai) region, the endpoint group is deployed in the China (Beijing) region, and the endpoint is deployed outside Alibaba Cloud. Requests are routed to the endpoint over the Internet. After a Global Accelerator instance is purchased, 1,000 GB of data is transferred within a month. The data transfer fees include the Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region, the Internet data transfer fee in the China (Beijing) region, and the inter-region data transfer fee.

Example 2: Clients outside the Chinese mainland access an application deployed on Alibaba Cloud outside the Chinese mainland

In the following figure, the acceleration region is the Singapore region, the endpoint group is deployed in the US (Silicon Valley) region, and the endpoint is deployed on Alibaba Cloud. Requests are routed to the endpoint over the internal network. After a Global Accelerator instance is purchased, 1,000 GB of data is transferred within a month. The data transfer fees include the Internet data transfer fee in the Singapore region and the inter-region data transfer fee.

Example 3: Clients in the Chinese mainland access an application deployed on Alibaba Cloud outside the Chinese mainland

In the following figure, the acceleration region is the China (Shanghai) region, the endpoint group is deployed in the US (Silicon Valley) region, and the endpoint is deployed on Alibaba Cloud. Requests are routed to the endpoint over the internal network. After a Global Accelerator instance is purchased, 1,000 GB of data is transferred within a month. The data transfer fees include the Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region and the cross-border data transfer fee for BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines.
