Data Transmission Service (DTS) provides features such as data migration, data synchronization, and change tracking. Before you use these features, you must prepare the environments that are required for your source and destination databases.
Background information
DTS allows you to use a self-managed database as the source or destination database for data transmission. The preparations that you must make vary based on scenarios. For more information, see the Preparations section of this topic. Select the corresponding instance type when you configure a DTS task.
For example, if the on-premises database to be migrated can be accessed over the Internet, set the Access Method parameter to Public IP Address when you configure a data migration task after you make preparations.
Preparations
Scenario | Network | Preparation | Access method |
The source or destination database is an on-premises database and can be accessed over the Internet. | Internet | Add the CIDR blocks of DTS servers to the security settings of on-premises databases | Public IP Address |
The source or destination database is an on-premises database but cannot be accessed over the Internet. | Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) | CEN
Database Gateway | Database Gateway
VPN Gateway | Express Connect, VPN Gateway, or Smart Access Gateway
Smart Access Gateway (SAG) | Connect an on-premises database to Alibaba Cloud. For more information, see the topics on best practices of SAG, such as Deploy an SAG device in one-arm mode and enable static routing.
Express Connect | Connect an on-premises database to Alibaba Cloud. For more information, see the topics on best practices of Express Connect, such as Establish active/active connections between a data center and Alibaba Cloud.
The source or destination database is hosted on an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance. | Virtual private cloud (VPC) | Add the CIDR blocks of DTS servers to the security settings of on-premises databases Note In this scenario, DTS automatically adds the CIDR blocks of DTS servers to the security settings of the ECS instance. However, if the source or destination database is hosted on multiple ECS instances, you must manually add the CIDR blocks of DTS servers to the security settings of the ECS instances. | Self-managed Database on ECS |
