Background information
A zone is a physical area within a region that has independent power grids and networks. For example, two zones are supported within the China (Qingdao) region, including Qingdao Zone B and Qingdao Zone C. Resources that are deployed within the same zone share the same network and have minimal latency between each other. Therefore, services deployed within the same zone provide faster communication speeds, which translates into more efficient business operations. Deploying applications in multiple zones can improve the availability of applications and reduce the risk of application faults. You may need to migrate instances across zones in actual business scenarios to meet the requirements of failover, load balancing, and data backup and restoration. To meet such requirements, CloudOps Orchestration Service (OOS) allows you to efficiently clone instances across zones.
Feature description
Cross-zone instance cloning allows you to create the same instance across different zones to implement the following features:
Failover: If an exception or an error occurs on an instance in one zone, you can quickly clone the instance to another zone. This ensures high availability and continuity of your business.
Load balancing: To achieve load balancing among multiple zones, you can create the same instance in different zones to relieve access pressure and improve the stability and performance of the system.
Data backup and restoration: You can clone instances in different zones to back up data. If the data of an instance is lost or damaged in a zone, you can use the corresponding instance in another zone to restore the data.
Application extension: If you need more instances to meet your growing business requirements, you can clone instances across zones to achieve rapid business development.
Performance testing and optimization: You can clone instances across zones to test and optimize instances to ensure that the performance of the instances is consistent in different zones. During this type of performance testing and optimization, your online business is not affected.
Procedure
Log on to the OOS console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Automated O&M > Public Templates.
Enter "CloneInstancesAcrossAZ" in the search box to find the relevant template. Then, click Create Execution.
On the Create page, configure basic information. Then, click Next Step: Parameter Settings.
In the Parameter Settings step, configure the parameters.
Specify the source instances by using one of the following methods: Manually Select Instances, Specify Instance Tags, Specify Resource Group, Upload CSV File, Select All, and Specify Inventory Conditions. Then, click Next Step: OK.
Click Create.
