To provide better services, ApsaraDB RDS is undergoing the transformation to the cloud-native architecture. Starting September 01, 2023, local SSDs are no longer available for purchase for ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL instances. We recommend that you select the enhanced SSD (ESSD) storage type when you purchase an RDS instance after the effective date.

Impacts and suggestions
Category | Impact | Suggestion |
New RDS instances | You can no longer purchase RDS instances that run PostgreSQL 10 with local SSDs in the ApsaraDB RDS console or by calling the CreateDBInstance operation. | We recommend that you purchase an RDS instance that runs a later major engine version. For more information, see Create an ApsaraDB RDS for SQL Server instance and Instance types for primary ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL instances. Note The open source PostgreSQL community no longer provides maintenance for PostgreSQL 10 since November 10, 2022. |
Existing RDS instances | Alibaba Cloud no longer provides kernel updates and maintenance for ApsaraDB RDS instances that run PostgreSQL 10 with local SSDs. Alibaba Cloud also no longer supports new features for these instances. However, Alibaba Cloud provides technical support for these instances. | We recommend that you upgrade your existing RDS instance to the ESSD storage type before the effective date. This prevents unfixed vulnerabilities and issues that may exist in the earlier versions. For more information, see Upgrade the major engine version of an ApsaraDB RDS for PostgreSQL instance. During the major version upgrade, you can select PL1 ESSD, PL2 ESSD, or PL3 ESSD. |
