PolarDB:Manually scale up storage capacity

Last Updated:Jan 27, 2026

You can manually scale up the storage capacity of a cluster that uses the subscription storage billing method. This topic describes how to manually scale up storage capacity.

Background information

If your data volume exceeds the purchased storage space, your cluster continues to run normally. Data that exceeds the purchased storage capacity is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Applicability

  • Manual scale-up is supported only for clusters that use the subscription storage billing method. Clusters that use the pay-as-you-go billing method have serverless storage. You do not need to specify a storage capacity when you purchase the cluster. The storage scales up automatically as your data volume increases.

  • Manual scale-up is not supported for PolarDB for PostgreSQL Distributed Edition clusters.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the PolarDB console. In the navigation pane on the left, click Clusters. Select the region where the cluster is located and click the cluster ID.

  2. On the Basic Information page, in the Distributed Storage section, click Manually Scale Up.

  3. On the Upgrade/Downgrade page, select the desired storage space, select the Terms of Service, and then click Buy Now.

  4. On the Payment page, confirm the order and click Purchase.
