As an industry-leading, enterprise-class cloud storage service, Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Service (OSS) is committed to providing you with a full range of storage solutions to meet diverse needs in different business scenarios. This topic describes how to select a storage solution to efficiently store data in various scenarios from hot data storage to cold data storage based on your business requirements.
Highlights
When you select a storage class for data in OSS, take note of the following factors:
Access frequency and real-time access performance
If your business data is frequently accessed and must be accessed in real time, such as static content of websites and video streams, select Standard.
If your business data is infrequently accessed but must be accessed in real time, such as outdated orders and quarterly reports, select Infrequent Access (IA).
If your business data is rarely accessed, such as legal documents and historical records, select Archive, Cold Archive, or Deep Cold Archive. In most cases, these storage classes require an extended period of time to restore data but can significantly reduce storage costs.
Data security and redundancy type
To ensure data security and business continuity, we recommend that you select zone-redundant storage (ZRS) which stores multiple copies of your data across multiple zones in the same region. This way, the disaster recovery capability is enhanced.
You can focus on the access frequency, real-time performance, data security, and redundancy type to quickly select the most suitable storage solution. This way, you can achieve the perfect balance between business requirements and storage costs.

Scenario | It is suitable for hot data that needs to be frequently accessed in real time and requires higher disaster recovery capabilities and service availability. | It is suitable for hot data that needs to be frequently accessed in real time. | It is suitable for warm data that is infrequently accessed but must be accessed in real time and requires higher disaster recovery capabilities and service availability. | It is suitable for warm data that is infrequently accessed but must be accessed in real time. | It is suitable for cold data that needs to be stored for a long period of time and is rarely accessed but needs to be quickly retrieved when the data is accessed. The data requires higher disaster recovery capabilities and service availability. The amount of time required to restore an Archive object is approximately 1 minute. If real-time access of Archive objects is enabled, you can access data in real time. | It is suitable for cold data that needs to be stored for a long period of time and is rarely accessed but needs to be quickly retrieved when the data is accessed. The amount of time required to restore an Archive object is approximately 1 minute. If real-time access of Archive objects is enabled, you can access data in real time. | It is suitable for cold data that needs to be stored for an extended period of time and is seldom accessed. The amount of time required to restore a Cold Archive object ranges from 1 to 12 hours. | It is suitable for extremely cold data that needs to be stored for an extremely long period of time and is almost never accessed. The amount of time required to restore a Deep Cold Archive object is 12 or 48 hours based on the restoration priority of the object. Deep Cold Archive provides ultra-high cost-effectiveness. | |
