NAT Gateway:Manage NAT Gateway quotas

Last Updated:Feb 27, 2026

NAT Gateway resources are subject to default quotas. You can view current usage, request quota increases, configure alerts, and create quota templates to enforce consistent baselines across your organization.

Two methods are available:

  • Quota Center -- Centrally manages quotas for multiple Alibaba Cloud services. Use Quota Center if you manage quotas across services.

  • VPC console -- Manages NAT Gateway quotas directly. Use the VPC console if you only need to manage VPC-related quotas.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that you have:

  • An Alibaba Cloud account (root account). RAM users require the AliyunQuotasFullAccess permission to manage quotas

Quota types

NAT Gateway has two quota types:

  • General quotas -- Resource limits such as the maximum number of NAT gateways that can be created in a VPC. Each quota has a name, description, and current usage.

  • API rate limits -- Throttling limits for NAT Gateway API operations. Each limit includes an API version and quota value.

View quotas

  2. Select the quota type that you want to view.

    • To view API Rate Limit, use the search box to find the target API rate limit and view its version and quota.

Increase quotas

If your business requires a quota value greater than the default and the quota is adjustable, submit a quota increase request. The result is the same regardless of the method you use.

Quota increase requests are reviewed by the technical support team of each Alibaba Cloud service. To increase the likelihood of approval, provide a reasonable value and a detailed reason for your request. You are notified of the result by text message and email.

Create a quota alert

You can create alerts for some NAT Gateway quotas by setting a threshold for either quota usage or the remaining quota. When the threshold is reached, the system sends an alert to the specified webhook address using an HTTP POST request. This helps you request a quota increase proactively and prevent service interruptions.

Create a quota alert in the Quota Center console

  1. Go to the Alarm Rules page of the Quota Center console and click Create Quota Alarm Rule.

  2. On the Create Alarm Rule page, configure the following parameters and click Confirm.

    SectionParameterDescription
Basic InformationAlarm Rule NameA custom name for the alert rule.

Add a quota to a quota template

If a quota template is Enabled and you have added quotas to it, the template automatically submits quota increase requests for new members that the management account adds to your resource directory. The quotas for existing members are not affected. You can use a quota template to request increases for multiple quotas at the same time.
