Elastic IP Address:Troubleshooting

Last Updated:Nov 23, 2023

This topic describes how to troubleshoot Elastic IP Address (EIP) issues such as connectivity issues, access issues, quota issues, and billing issues. During the troubleshooting process, your EIPs may be diagnosed. However, your EIP configurations and service workloads are not affected.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Elastic IP Address console .
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Troubleshooting.

  3. Click the EIP tab.

  4. Select an issue type and proceed based on the references and suggestions prompted in the console.

For more information about the references and troubleshooting methods for EIP, see Issue types.

Billing

For more information about purchasing an EIP, billing issues, and refunding for EIPs, see the following topics:

Network connectivity

If you cannot access an EIP or packet loss occurs, you can troubleshoot based on the following information:

  • An EIP can be accessed, but the domain name associated with the EIP cannot be accessed

The EIP does not have configuration issues because the EIP can be accessed. Check the domain name configurations.

  • An EIP in China (Hong Kong) cannot be accessed from the Chinese mainland or access from the Chinese mainland to the EIP is slow

The cross-border communication between the Chinese mainland and China (Hong Kong) may be limited by connection congestion and ISP regulations, which may slow down the communication. Alibaba Cloud provides BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines for such scenarios. BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro lines can optimize data transmission to the Chinese mainland and improve connection quality for international services. Compared with BGP (Multi-ISP), when BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro provides services to users in the Chinese mainland (excluding data centers), cross-border connections are established by using premium ISP services. This reduces network latency. For more information about how to apply for a BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro EIP, see Apply for an EIP.

You can use the following methods for troubleshooting:

  • Instance diagnostics: Use the instance diagnostics feature of Network Intelligence Service (NIS) to diagnose the EIP. For more information, see Work with instance diagnostics.

  • Connectivity test: Use the reachability analyzer of NIS to test the connectivity between the EIP and a destination instance. For more information, see Work with the reachability analyzer.

Association and disassociation

For more information about issues related to EIP association and disassociation, see the following topics:

To associate multiple EIPs with an ECS instance, you can use one of the following methods:

  • Associate an EIP with each secondary ENI, and associate multiple secondary ENIs with the ECS instance. The number of secondary ENIs supported by an ECS instance varies with the instance family. For more information, see Instance families.

  • Associate multiple EIPs with a secondary ENI in NAT mode. In this mode, you can associate multiple EIPs with the private IP address of the secondary ENI. Then, associate the secondary ENI with the ECS instance. For more information, see Associate multiple EIPs with an ECS instance in NAT mode.

Insufficient quota

Others

If you cannot determine the EIP issue type , we recommend that you run health checks on the EIP for troubleshooting. For more information, see Work with instance diagnostics.
