Edge Security Acceleration:Smart routing

Last Updated:Jan 24, 2025

This topic introduces what smart routing is, how it is billed, and how to enable the feature in the ESA console.

Feature introduction

If your website provides dynamic content or a mix of dynamic and static content, like transactions, gaming, or APIs, the origin server delivers different content based on user requests. However, network instability across regions or Internet service providers (ISPs) can cause delays or failures in communication between users and the origin server.

To address this, you can enable smart routing to monitor the quality of Alibaba Cloud's global POP network in real-time and route traffic through the most efficient paths. Additionally, optimization technologies, such as advanced protocol stacks, are integrated to reduce latency and request failures, enhancing user experience and ensuring business continuity.

Billing

Smart routing is a usage-based service charged according to the number of accelerated requests. The billing rate is USD 0.015 per 10,000 requests, with bills generated daily.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the ESA console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Websites.

  3. On the Websites page, find the website that you want to manage, and click the website name or View Details in the Actions column.

  4. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Traffic > Smart Routing.

  5. Enable Smart Routing.
