Enterprise SSDs (ESSDs) provide performance levels 0, 1, 2, and 3 (PL0, PL1, PL2, and PL3) to meet the storage requirements of different application scenarios. When you use ESSDs, you can change the performance levels of the ESSDs in response to workload changes to balance performance and costs. This topic describes how to change the performance level of an ESSD.
For information about the performance of ESSDs at each performance level, see Block storage performance.
Limits
When you change the performance level of an ESSD, take note of the following limits:
Status limits
An ESSD must be in the In Use or Unattached state.
If the ESSD is attached to an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance, the instance must be in the Running or Stopped state. The instance cannot be in the Expired state or has overdue payments.
Performance level limits
For a subscription ESSD, you can only upgrade its performance level.
For a pay-as-you-go ESSD, you can upgrade or downgrade the performance level of the ESSD. However, you cannot downgrade the performance level to PL0.
NoteOnly ultra disks can be downgraded to PL0 ESSDs. For more information, see Change the category of a disk.
The performance levels that you can select for an ESSD vary based on the capacity of the ESSD. If you cannot select a higher performance level for an ESSD, you can extend the ESSD and then upgrade its performance level. For information about how to extend a disk, see Overview.
Billing
After you upgrade the performance level of an ESSD, the ESSD is billed based on the new performance level. We recommend that you select appropriate performance levels for your ESSDs based on your business requirements. For more information, see Block storage devices.
Prices vary for ESSDs at different performance levels. View the pricing schedule of ESSDs on the Pricing tab of the Elastic Compute Service product page.
Procedure
Log on to the ECS console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
In the top navigation bar, select the region and resource group to which the resource belongs.
Find the ESSD whose performance level you want to change. In the Actions column, choose .
In the Modify Performance Level dialog box, set the Performance Level parameter and click OK.
