    Elastic Compute Service:switch the billing method of a disk

    If your disk's current billing method, whether pay-as-you-go or subscription, does not suit your needs, you can change it by following the guidelines in this topic.

    Prerequisites

    • The Elastic Block Storage device to be switched must be a disk. Ephemeral and local disks cannot be switched on their own; they must be switched along with the instance.     • The billing method to be switched must be either subscription or pay-as-you-go. Preemptible instances and cost-optimization billing methods such as savings plans and Storage Capacity Units are not eligible for switching.

    • Ensure that the instance status is Running or Stopped.

    • The disk must meet the following criteria:

      • The disk status is In_use.

      • The multi-attach feature is not enabled on the disk. Disks with multi-attach enabled cannot have their billing method switched. For more information, see Multi-attach feature of disks.

      • The disk's billing method has not been changed within the last 5 minutes prior to this operation.

    Procedure

    • The system disk cannot be switched independently and must be switched along with the instance. For detailed instructions, see Switch the billing method of an instance from subscription to pay-as-you-go and Switch the billing method of an instance from pay-as-you-go to subscription.

    • Depending on your needs, you can refer to different documents to switch the billing method of the data disk.

      Procedure

      Switch from pay-as-you-go to subscription

      Pay-as-you-go

      Can only be switched with the billing method of the instance. For specific operations, see Switch the billing method of an instance from pay-as-you-go to subscription.

      Subscription

      1. Log on to the ECS console.

      2. Select one of the following methods to switch the billing method of the disk.

        • If you need to switch multiple data disks mounted on an instance, it is recommended to operate on the instance page.

          1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Instances & Images > Instances.

          2. In the top navigation bar, select the region and resource group to which the resource belongs. 地域

          3. Find the instance with the disk to be switched. In the Actions column, select 更多 > Upgrade/downgrade > Upgrade Configuration.

          4. On the Upgrade Configuration page, in the Disk Billing Method area, select the pay-as-you-go data disk to be switched.

            The billing method of the selected data disk will be switched from pay-as-you-go to subscription in the upgrade order.

        • If you need to switch a specific data disk, it is recommended to operate on the disk page.

          1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Storage & Snapshots > Block Storage.

          2. In the top navigation bar, select the region and resource group to which the resource belongs. 地域

          3. Find the data disk to be switched. In the Actions column, select 更多 > Switch From Pay-as-you-go To Subscription.

          4. In the Disk Billing Method area, view the default selected disk.

      3. Read the upgrade notice, select Terms of Service for Elastic Compute Service (ECS), and then click Confirm Order.

      4. Complete the payment and confirm that the billing method of the disk has been switched to subscription.

        After the billing method of the disk is switched to subscription, it cannot be detached.

      Switch from subscription to pay-as-you-go

      Subscription (Subscription disks can only be attached to subscription instances. There is no pay-as-you-go situation)

      Note

      Using the real-time downgrade feature to switch a subscription data disk to a pay-as-you-go data disk may result in a refund. The refund amount is the difference between the price of the new configuration and the remaining effective purchase price before the downgrade.

      1. Log on to the ECS console.

      2. Select one of the following methods to switch the billing method of the disk.

        • If you need to switch multiple data disks mounted on an instance, it is recommended to operate on the instance page.

          1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Instances & Images > Instances.

          2. In the top navigation bar, select the region and resource group to which the resource belongs. 地域

          3. Find the instance with the disk to be switched. In the Actions column, select 更多 > Upgrade/downgrade > Downgrade Configuration.

          4. On the Downgrade Configuration page, click the Disk Billing Method tab.

          5. Select the subscription data disk to be switched.

            The billing method of the selected data disk will be switched from subscription to pay-as-you-go.

        • If you need to switch a specific data disk, it is recommended to operate on the disk page.

          1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Storage & Snapshots > Block Storage.

          2. In the top navigation bar, select the region and resource group to which the resource belongs. 地域

          3. Find the data disk to be switched. In the Actions column, select 更多 > Switch From Subscription To Pay-as-you-go.

          4. In the Disk Billing Method tab, view the default selected disk.

      3. Select Terms of Service for Elastic Compute Service (ECS), and then click Downgrade Now.

        After the billing method of the disk is switched to pay-as-you-go, by default, it is not released with the instance. You can change the release with instance setting in the ECS console. For specific operations, see Release a disk.
