    Domain Names:How do I cancel my Alibaba Cloud account if a valid domain name exists in the account?

    This topic describes how to cancel your Alibaba Cloud account if an expired or unexpired domain name exists in the account.

    Problem description

    When you cancel your Alibaba Cloud account, the system performs a check on the dependencies. After the check is complete, the system displays the Active Domain instance found under your account,the account cannot be deleted. message.

    Possible causes

    • A valid domain name exists in your Alibaba Cloud account. The domain name has not expired.

    • An expired domain name that enters the renewal grace period or redemption period exists in your Alibaba Cloud account.

    Solutions

    Your domain name has not expired

    If the domain name in your Alibaba Cloud account has not expired, you can use one of the following methods to cancel your Alibaba Cloud account.

    • Method 1: Transfer the domain name

      Transfer the valid domain name from your Alibaba Cloud account to another Alibaba Cloud account. The domain name can be transferred regardless of its real-name verification status. After the domain name is transferred, you can cancel your Alibaba Cloud account. For more information about how to transfer a domain name to another Alibaba Cloud account, see Transfer a domain name to another Alibaba Cloud account.

    • Method 2: Sell the domain name

      If your domain name has not expired, sell the domain name. After the domain name is sold, you can cancel your Alibaba Cloud account.

    • Method 3: Wait for the domain name to expire and be automatically deleted

      If your domain name has not expired, wait for the domain name to expire. After the domain name expires, you can cancel your Alibaba Cloud account.

      Important

      • After a domain name expires, the system automatically deletes the domain name after the renewal grace period and redemption period, you do not need to cancel the domain name in advance. For more information about the renewal grace period, see Redeem a domain name.

      • After a domain name expires, you cannot manually delete the domain name in the console. Wait until the domain name is deleted by the registry.

    • Method 4: Cancel the domain name

      Submit a ticket to cancel the valid domain name. Alibaba Cloud specialists cancel the valid domain name in your Alibaba Cloud account. After the domain name is canceled, you must wait for the redemption period to end and for the domain name to be deleted by the registry before you can cancel your Alibaba Cloud account.

      Important

      • Domain name cancellation only allows your domain name to enter the redemption period as soon as possible.

      • After the domain name is canceled, the remaining resources cannot be refunded.

      • If the domain name is filed, the website that uses the domain name becomes inaccessible after the domain name is canceled.

      • If you no longer need a domain name, you can pause or delete the DNS records of the domain name. Then, the domain name cannot be accessed. For more information, see Pause or delete DNS records.

    Your domain name has expired

    If the domain name in your Alibaba Cloud account has expired and entered the renewal grace period or redemption period, use one of the following methods to cancel your Alibaba Cloud account.

    • Method 1: Wait for the domain name to be automatically deleted

      If your domain name has expired and entered the renewal grace period or redemption period, delete the domain name after the renewal grace period or redemption period ends. For more information about the renewal grace period and redemption period, see Redeem a domain name.

      Important

      You can not manually delete the domain name from the Domain Names console after the renewal grace period or redemption period ends. Wait for the registry to delete the domain name.

    • Solution 2: Cancel the domain name

      If your domain name has expired and entered the renewal grace period, submit a ticket to cancel the domain name. Alibaba Cloud specialists cancel the valid domain name in your Alibaba Cloud account. After the domain name is canceled, you must wait for the redemption period to end and for the domain name to be deleted by the registry before you can cancel your Alibaba Cloud account.

      Important

      • Domain name cancellation only allows your domain name to enter the redemption period as soon as possible.

      • If the domain name is filed, the website that uses the domain name becomes inaccessible after the domain name is canceled.
