Location hosting allows you to manage and analyze the data that is stored in Object Storage Service (OSS) by using the Data Lake Formation (DLF) service. After location hosting is complete, you can use the data lake management capabilities provided by DLF such as storage overview, lifecycle management, data overview of data tables (which displays data access frequency and last update time of data), and storage permissions (in planning).
Procedure
Register a location
Log on to the DLF console.
Choose Lake Management > Location Hosting.
On the Location Hosting page, click Register Location.
Select one or more OSS buckets that you want to register. Then, select an RAM role that DLF can assume to access the OSS buckets.
Click OK. A confirmation message appears. Confirm that the status is normal and click OK.
After the registration is complete, the registered OSS buckets are displayed on the Location Hosting page.
The OSS bucket inventory and OSS logging features are automatically selected during registration. You can choose whether to enable these features. We recommend that you enable these features. If you have enabled these features in the OSS console, they are not enabled again.
If OSS bucket inventory and OSS logging are enabled, data is retained for 7 days by default to save your storage costs.
You are charged for additional OSS storage fees by using OSS bucket inventory and OSS logging features. The following examples show the fees in actual tests for reference:
Example of storage inventory fees: If 100 million files are retained for 7 days in the inventory list, you are charged about USD 0.0518 per month.
Example of logging fees: If you perform 400 million API calls per month and the log files of the API calls are retained for 7 days, you are charged about USD 0.7005 per month.
Edit a location
Log on to the DLF console.
Choose Lake Management > Location Hosting.
Select the location that you want to edit and click Edit in the Actions column.
You can enable or disable the OSS bucket inventory and OSS logging features.
The OSS bucket inventory and OSS logging features that are not automatically selected by DLF cannot be disabled.
Delete a location
Log on to the DLF console.
Choose Lake Management > Location Hosting.
Select the location that you want to delete and click Delete in the Actions column.
Click Delete in the confirmation message.
After the location is deleted, the OSS bucket inventory and OSS logging features that are enabled by DLF are automatically disabled. If they are not automatically enabled by DLF, they will not be automatically disabled.
After the location is deleted, DLF does not have permissions to manage the data stored in the corresponding OSS bucket, and you can no longer use all or some of the features in storage overview, lifecycle management, and data overview of data tables.
