This topic provides answers to some frequently asked questions about the billing of Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN).
Am I charged for using an Enterprise Edition transit router to establish network communication between virtual private clouds (VPCs) that are in the same region?
Yes.
You are charged a connection fee and a data forwarding fee.
Am I charged for using an Enterprise Edition transit router to establish network communication between VPCs that are in the same region but different accounts?
Yes.
You are charged a transit router connection fee and a transit router data forwarding fee.
When you grant the Enterprise Edition transit router permissions on the VPC in the peer account, you can specify the account that pays the connection fee and data forwarding fee. For example, you can specify the account of the VPC or the account of the transit router. For more information, see Acquire permissions to connect to a network instance that belongs to another account.
Am I charged for using an Enterprise Edition transit router to establish network communication between VPCs in different regions and accounts?
Yes.
You are charged a connection fee, a data forwarding fee, and a bandwidth plan or data transfer fee. The bandwidth plan is used to allocate bandwidth resources to inter-region connections.
Does CEN support data transfer plans?
CEN does not support data transfer plans. However, CEN supports transit router savings plans, which can be used to offset data forwarding fees of Enterprise Edition transit routers. For more information, see Overview of transit router savings plans.
Do inter-region connections support the pay-as-you-go billing method?
Yes, inter-region connections support the pay-as-you-go billing method.
When you create an inter-region connection, you can select the pay-as-you-go billing method for bandwidth consumption. In this case, you are charged based on the amount of data transfer. Data transfer fees are managed by Cloud Data Transfer (CDT). For more information, see Inter-region data transfers.
Can I switch the billing method of inter-region connections from bandwidth plans to pay-as-you-go?
Yes, you can switch the billing method of inter-region connections from bandwidth plans to pay-as-you-go.
Bandwidth plans use the subscription billing method and do not support the pay-as-you-go billing method. To change the billing method of an inter-region connection to pay-as-you-go, change the bandwidth allocation mode of the inter-region connection. For more information, see Modify the bandwidth allocation mode of an inter-region connection.
If the bandwidth of my inter-region connection exceeds the maximum value, am I charged for bandwidth overages based on the pay-as-you-go billing method?
No.
If the bandwidth of the inter-region connection is allocated from a bandwidth plan and the maximum bandwidth is reached, packets are automatically dropped to prevent unexpected bandwidth fees.
What fees am I charged for using a Basic Edition transit router?
Beginning March 31, 2022, Basic Edition transit routers are unavailable for sale, except in Cloud Connect Network (CCN) regions. In other regions, you can create only Enterprise Edition transit routers. Enterprise Edition transit routers provide more features. For more information, see Functions and features.
If you use a Basic Edition transit router, you are charged a bandwidth plan fee only when you create an inter-region connection by using the transit router.
