The subscription billing method for Managed Service for Prometheus is no longer available. For details, see Discontinuation of the subscription billing method for Managed Service for Prometheus.
Managed Service for Prometheus Pro Edition previously supported subscription (prepaid) billing. You were charged based on two factors: the capacity of your Prometheus instance and the storage duration of your data samples.
Supported instance types
The following Prometheus instance types supported subscription billing:
Capacity options
Capacity determines how many custom metric data samples an instance can ingest per month. Different instance types offer different capacity tiers.
Prometheus instances for Container Service
Capacity tiers are based on the number of nodes in your cluster. Select a tier that covers your node count and expected monthly data sample volume.
| Capacity | Nodes | Custom metric data samples per month |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 1-5 | 3 billion |
| Medium | 6-20 | 10 billion |
| Large | 21-50 | 25 billion |
| Extra large | 51-200 | 60 billion |
| Custom | More than 200 | 10 billion per 20 additional nodes |
For example, a cluster with 10 nodes reporting 8 billion data samples per month fits the Medium tier. A cluster with 260 nodes reporting 70 billion data samples per month requires the Custom tier.
For pricing details, see Billing of Prometheus instances for Container Service.
General-purpose, ECS, and Flink Serverless instances
These instance types share the same capacity tiers. Capacity is based solely on data sample volume, not node count.
| Capacity | Custom metric data samples per month |
|---|---|
| Small | 3 billion |
| Medium | 10 billion |
| Large | 25 billion |
| Extra large | 60 billion |
| Custom | More than 60 billion (configurable) |
For pricing details, see Billing of general-purpose Prometheus instances, Prometheus instances for ECS, and Prometheus instances for Flink Serverless.
Storage duration
Data samples can be stored for 1 month, 3 months, or 6 months. If you select 1 month at purchase, you can extend the duration to 3 or 6 months later. For more information, see How do I change the storage duration of data samples for a metric?.
Expired data samples are automatically cleared.
Throttling and capacity upgrades
If reported data samples exceed the capacity of a Prometheus instance, throttling is applied to maintain service stability. To upgrade capacity, go to the Instances page, find the target instance, and choose Service Change > Specification Upgrade in the Actions column.
Metric types
Managed Service for Prometheus classifies metrics into two categories:
Basic metrics: Predefined metrics provided by Managed Service for Prometheus. For the full list, see Metrics.
Custom metrics: All non-basic metrics. Custom metric data sample ingestion counts toward your instance capacity and determines your billing.
Billing cycle
The billing cycle matches the subscription term you commit to at purchase (based on UTC+8). It starts at the exact purchase or renewal time (accurate to the second) and ends at 00:00:00 on the day after the expiration date. Subscription terms are measured in calendar months or years.
