This topic describes the pricing and billing for the backup and restore feature of ApsaraDB for OceanBase.
Billing description
The backup and restore feature of ApsaraDB for OceanBase provides four types of backup services: local level-1 backup, local archive backup, remote level-1 backup, and remote archive backup.
After you purchase a cluster instance or a serverless instance, a local backup and restore order is automatically generated. By default, only the local level-1 backup service is automatically enabled. You can manually enable the local archive backup and remote backup services as needed. For more information, see Backup strategies
A serverless instance does not support the local archive backup and remote archive backup services.
If you are a subscription user, the backup and restore order automatically ends after the cluster instance order ends.
If you are a pay-as-you-go user, you can click Release next to your cluster instance to release the cluster instance.
NoteWhen you release a cluster instance, you can retain the backup data. The backup data is billed based on the data type.
If a cluster instance enters the recycle bin after being released, there will be no free quota for data backups or log backups.
The storage space occupied by backup files consists of two parts: the part for data backups and the part for log backups. The free quota of storage space varies based on the type of backup files.
Local level-1 backup: The storage space for data backups and log backups has free quotas. When a free quota is used up, you will be charged based on the excess storage usage and retention period.
NoteIf you use Standard Edition (History Database), there are no free quotas for data backups or log backups and you will be charged based on the storage usage and retention period.
For other series, data backups are retained for 7 to 30 days. You will not be charged if your data backups do not exceed the size limit and the data backups are retained for no more than 15 days.
Local archive backup: For backup files that require long-term retention and are not frequently used for restore, you can enable archive backup. After archive backup is enabled, backup files that exceed the retention period specified for level-1 backup will be migrated to the path where archive backup files are stored. The storage space for data backups and log backups has no free quotas. You will be charged based on the storage usage and retention period. You can use archive backup files for a free restore once every three months.
NoteArchive backup files are retained for at least 60 days. You will be charged for 60-day retention even if the retention period is shorter than 60 days.
Remote backup: The storage space for data backups and log backups has no free quotas. You will be charged based on the storage usage and retention period. Remote backup charges higher than local backup because remote replication occupies bandwidth resources.
The following tables describe the billing methods for backup and restore. For more information about expiring or overdue services, see Expiration or overdue payment.
Billing for level-1 backup
Level-1 data backups and log backups have free quotas if the retention period is within 15 days. The following table describes the free quotas.
When the retention period of a backup exceeds the time specified in the backup strategy, the system deletes the backup to restore the backup quota.
Billable item | Free quota | Description | Region |
Data Backup | 2 × N N is the storage space size specified when you purchase the cluster. | When the size of log backups is less than or equal to 2 times the storage space size of the cluster (N), no extra backup charges are incurred. | Chinese mainland, China (Hong Kong), Singapore, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Indonesia (Jakarta), Germany (Frankfurt), US (Silicon Valley), US (Virginia), Middle East, Saudi Arabia (Riyadh) |
Log Backup | 0.5 × N N is the storage space size specified when you purchase the cluster. | When the size of log backups is less than or equal to 0.5 times the storage space size of the cluster (N), no extra backup charges are incurred. |
The following table lists the unit prices when the billing condition is met.
Billable item | Unit price per hour in Chinese mainland | Unit price per hour in China (Hong Kong), Singapore, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Indonesia (Jakarta), Germany (Frankfurt), US (Silicon Valley), US (Virginia), Middle East, Saudi Arabia (Riyadh) |

Billing example of data backups
Assume that you have purchased a cluster instance in the China (Hong Kong) region. The cluster has a storage space of 1,000 GB, so the free quota for data backups is 2,000 GB. The data backup is performed at 03:00 every day. The first data backup started at 03:00 on December 4, 2023 and was completed at 04:50 on the same day. Then, the system calculated the fees at 05:00 and the backup size was 200 GB. If the backup is performed every day in the same pattern, you are charged based on the hourly unit price when the total backup size exceeds the free quota of 2,000 GB or the backup retention period exceeds 15 days.
The following table describes the backup sizes over time.
Backup/Date | December 4 | December 5 | December 6 | ··· | December 19 | December 20 | ··· |
Incremental backup size (GB) | 200 | 200 | 200 | ··· | 200 | 200 | ··· |
Total data backup size (GB) | 200 | 400 | 600 | ··· | 3,000 | 3,200 | ··· |
The following table describes the billing details.

··· | ··· | ··· |
The total fees are calculated as follows:
From 05:00 on December 4 to 05:00 on December 19, the total fee for those 15 days is:
0.288 + 0.576 + 0.864 + 1.152 + 1.44 = USD 4.32
.From 05:00 on December 4 to 05:00 on December 20, the total fee for those 16 days is:
0.288 + 0.576 + 0.864 + 1.152 + 1.44 + 1.728 = USD 6.048
.
Billing example of log backups
The total size of log backups changes with the business in real time, and log backups are charged by hour based on the actual backup size.
Assume that you have purchased a cluster instance in the China (Hong Kong) region. The cluster has a storage space of 1,000 GB, so the free quota for log backups is 500 GB. The log backup is performed at 03:00 every day. The first log backup started at 03:00 on December 4, 2023 and 1 GB of log backups were generated every hour. Then, the system calculated the fees at 04:00 for the first time. In this way, 24 GB of log backups are accumulated every day. You are charged based on the hourly unit price when the total log backup size exceeds the free quota of 500 GB or the log backup retention period exceeds 15 days.
The following table describes the backup sizes over time.
