This topic provides answers to some commonly asked questions about ApsaraDB MyBase.
FAQ
- What is ApsaraDB MyBase? What are the differences between ApsaraDB MyBase and ApsaraDB RDS?
ApsaraDB MyBase consists of multiple hosts or servers, such as Elastic Compute Service (ECS) i2 instances and ECS Bare Metal instances. For more information, see Terms.
ApsaraDB RDS instances that are created in ApsaraDB MyBase inherit the features of regular ApsaraDB RDS instances. Besides, they provide more benefits than regular instances. For more information, see Mechanisms and benefits.
- Can I access secondary instances?
No, you cannot access secondary instances. You can access only primary instances. Secondary instances serve only as backups and do not process user requests.
- How can I stop and release an instance in an ApsaraDB MyBase dedicated cluster?
You cannot stop an instance in an ApsaraDB MyBase dedicated cluster. You can release an instance in a dedicated cluster. Before you release an instance, we recommend that you download and save the backup file. Verify that the backup file is valid. After you release an instance, data in the instance is deleted and cannot be recovered. Before you release an instance, make sure that the instance is not in use. For more information, see Release or unsubscribe from an ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance.
- Are all the hosts of an ApsaraDB MyBase dedicated cluster deployed in the same region? Can I create an ApsaraDB MyBase dedicated
cluster that consists of hosts deployed in different regions?
Yes, all the hosts of an ApsaraDB MyBase dedicated cluster are deployed in the same region. An ApsaraDB MyBase dedicated cluster resides in only one region.

Billing
Why do I need to pay additional fees for subscription hosts?
If you select enhanced SSDs as the storage type of your hosts in ApsaraDB MyBase, the subscription fee covers only the CPU and memory resources of the hosts. The storage space that you need to create instances is charged when you create the instances. If you select local SSDs as the storage type of your hosts in ApsaraDB MyBase, you do not need to pay additional fees when you create instances.
