Anti-DDoS:Billing of the log analysis feature

Last Updated:Jul 15, 2024

The log analysis feature is a value-added capability that is provided by Anti-DDoS Proxy. You must separately purchase this feature. After you add your websites to your Anti-DDoS Proxy instance, the instance does not store the access logs of the websites. If you want to store the access logs and use the access logs for business analysis, you must enable the log analysis feature.

Overview

The log analysis feature supports the subscription billing method. You can go to the buy page of log analysis to enable the feature for your instance. You are charged for the log analysis feature based on the log storage capacity and log storage duration that you select. For more information about how to enable the log analysis feature, see Enable the log analysis feature.

After you enable the log analysis feature, a log analysis instance is provided. You can use the log analysis feature to collect the access logs of your websites within the validity period of the log analysis instance. You can query and analyze the access logs, and configure alerts based on the access logs.

Important
  • The log analysis instance and the Anti-DDoS Proxy instance are independent of each other and must be separately managed. For example, you must separately renew the Anti-DDoS Proxy instance and the log analysis instance.

  • If you no longer use Anti-DDoS Proxy, we recommend that you choose Expenses > Renewal Management in the top navigation bar of the Anti-DDoS Proxy console to disable auto-renewal for the log analysis feature. This way, no additional fees are generated for the log analysis feature.

Billable items

You are charged for the log analysis feature based on the log storage capacity in TB.

The price varies based on the log storage capacity that you select and is subject to the price that is displayed on the buy page of log analysis.

After you enable the log analysis feature, you can perform the following operations to modify the log storage capacity:

Important

If the log storage capacity is exhausted, new logs cannot be stored and are lost. Logs that are stored longer than the log storage duration that you specify are automatically deleted.

When the log storage capacity is exhausted, you can upgrade your log analysis instance to increase the log storage capacity or delete logs. For more information about how to delete logs, see Delete logs.

Method to select a log storage capacity

The following example shows how to select a log storage capacity based on the daily queries per second (QPS) of your website:

In most cases, each request log occupies approximately 2 KB of storage. If the average QPS of your website is 500, the required storage for the logs that are generated within a day is 86,400,000 KB, which is approximately 82 GB. This value is calculated by using the following formula: 500 × 60 × 60 × 24 × 2 = 86,400,000. If you want to store logs that are generated within 180 days, the required log storage capacity is 15,552,000,000 KB, which is approximately 14.5 TB. This value is calculated by using the following formula: 86,400,000 × 180 = 15,552,000,000.

Expiration description

When your log analysis instance expires, the following issues occur:

  • Anti-DDoS Proxy no longer stores new logs.

  • The logs that are stored are retained for 15 days.

    • If you renew your log analysis instance within 15 days after the instance expires, you can continue to use the log analysis feature.

    • If you do not renew your log analysis instance within 15 days after the instance expires, the logs that are stored are automatically deleted.

      Note

The Logstore and dashboard are deleted from the project for the log analysis feature in Simple Log Service. However, the project remains available in Simple Log Service. For more information, see Project, Logstore, and Dashboard. After you purchase the log analysis feature again, the Logstore and dashboard are recreated in the original project for the log analysis feature.

You can perform the following operations to query the expiration time of the log analysis instance:

  1. Log on to the Anti-DDoS Proxy console.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select the region of your instance.

    • Anti-DDoS Proxy (Chinese Mainland): If your instance is an Anti-DDoS Proxy (Chinese Mainland) instance, select Chinese Mainland.

    • Anti-DDoS Proxy (Outside Chinese Mainland): If your instance is an Anti-DDoS Proxy (Outside Chinese Mainland) instance, select Outside Chinese Mainland.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Investigation > Log Analysis.

  4. On the Log Analysis page, click Details in the upper-right corner.

  5. In the Details dialog box, view the value of the Expiration Time parameter.

Renew a log analysis instance

If your log analysis instance expires and you do not renew the instance at the earliest opportunity, logs are deleted. To prevent data loss, we recommend that you renew your log analysis instance at the earliest opportunity. You can manually renew your log analysis instance. You can also enable auto-renewal for your log analysis instance.

Manually renew the instance

  4. In the upper-right corner of the Log Analysis page, click Renew.

  5. On the Renew page, configure the Duration parameter, and read and select Terms of Service.

  6. Click Buy Now and complete the payment.

After you renew the log analysis instance, you can click Details in the upper-right corner of the Log Analysis page to view the new value of the Expiration Time parameter.

Enable auto-renewal for the instance

  1. Log on to the Anti-DDoS Proxy console.

  2. In the top navigation bar, choose Expenses > Renewal Management.

  3. On the Manual tab, find the log analysis instance that you want to renew and click Enable Auto Renewal in the Actions column.

  4. In the Enable Auto Renewal dialog box, configure the Unified Auto Renewal Cycle parameter and click Auto Renew.

For example, if Unified Auto Renewal Cycle is set to 3 Months, Alibaba Cloud extends the subscription duration of the log analysis instance for three months and deducts fees from the balance of your Alibaba Cloud account.

After you enable auto-renewal, you can view the auto-renewal configurations on the Auto tab. You can also click Enable Manual Renewal to enable manual renewal.
