Cloud Enterprise Network:Billing

Last Updated:Mar 18, 2026

To connect networks using Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN), first create a transit router (TR) in CEN. Then, create network instance connections through the TR. CEN charges for these connections as follows:

  • For intra-region connections, you are charged a connection fee and a data processing fee.

  • For inter-region connections, you are charged an inter-region bandwidth fee.

Billing rule

Formula

Minimum billing cycle

Billing method

Connection fee

Billed based on the number and usage duration of intra-region connections.

Intra-region connections include VPC, ECR, VBR, and VPN connections.

Usage duration is the time from when a network instance connection is created to when it is uninstalled.

Unit price (USD/connection/hour) × Number of intra-region connections × Usage duration (hours)

1 hour.

If the usage duration is less than 1 hour, you are charged for 1 hour.

Pay-as-you-go

Data processing fee

Billed based on the traffic that is inbound to the transit router from intra-region connections.

Multicast traffic does not apply to this rule. For more information, see Multicast Billing Instructions.

Unit price (USD/GB) × Traffic inbound to the transit router from intra-region connections (GB)

1 hour

Inter-region bandwidth fee

If you select pay-by-data-transfer:

Billing is based on outbound cross-region traffic from each TransitRouter, and the Cloud Data Transfer (CDT) service handles billing.

Unit price (USD/GB) × Outbound inter-region traffic from the transit router (GB)

1 hour

If you select pay-by-bandwidth:

You must first purchase a bandwidth plan, and then allocate bandwidth from the bandwidth plan to an inter-region connection. Each bandwidth plan is billed based on the bandwidth value and subscription duration (months).

Unit price (USD/Mbps/month) × Bandwidth value (Mbps) × Subscription duration (months)

1 month

Subscription

How do I choose a billing method for inter-region bandwidth fees?

  • Pay-by-data-transfer: This method is suitable for services with large and frequent fluctuations in peak bandwidth or when you cannot estimate bandwidth usage. Examples include temporary extensions, tests, video conferencing, and real-time games.

  • Pay-by-bandwidth: This method is suitable for services with stable peak bandwidth that run for extended periods. Examples include file transfers, data migration, and data synchronization.

Pay-by-bandwidth

If you select the pay-by-bandwidth billing method:

  • The cross-region link type supports only Gold.

  • Tiered pricing applies. The total fee is the sum of the fees for all tiers. You can go to the bandwidth plan buy page to view the price for your desired bandwidth value.

The following tables show the unit price for each tier.

Example of tiered pricing for inter-region bandwidth

Assume that you purchase a bandwidth plan for one month to connect regions within the Chinese mainland. The peak bandwidth is 110 Mbps. The fee for this bandwidth plan is calculated as follows:

USD 34/Mbps/month × 100 Mbps × 1 month + USD 13/Mbps/month × 10 Mbps × 1 month = USD 3,530

Note

Starting March 31, 2021, Alibaba Cloud offers a free trial of Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) bandwidth plans for first-time purchasers with an Alibaba Cloud account. The free trial lasts for one month, and the free bandwidth is up to 5 Mbps. For more information, see Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) Subscription Bandwidth Plan Free Trial.

Link types

Inter-region links support two types: Gold and Platinum. They provide data transmission services at different service levels:

Link type

Service availability

Applicable business scenarios

Gold

99.95%

Suitable for services that are not sensitive to link quality. Examples include data synchronization and file transfer.

Platinum

99.995%

Suitable for services that are highly sensitive to link jitter and latency and require high link quality. Examples include securities trading, online voice calls, video conferencing, and real-time games.

Billing examples

Example 1: Intra-region VPC communication

image

As shown in the preceding figure, assume you created a transit router in the China (Hangzhou) region to connect two VPCs (VPC1 and VPC2) in the same region. Within one month, VPC1 sent 100 GB of data to VPC2 through the transit router, and VPC2 did not send data to VPC1. In this scenario, the fees are calculated as follows:

Connection fee:

  • There are two VPC connections, which are intra-region connections. The unit price for connections in the Chinese mainland is USD 0.05/connection/hour.

  • Assume that the month has 30 days, which is 30 days × 24 hours = 720 hours.

  • USD 0.05/connection/hour × 2 VPC connections × 720 hours = USD 72

Data processing fee:

  • The unit price for data processing is USD 0.02/GB.

  • The traffic inbound to the transit router from VPC1 is 100 GB. The traffic inbound to the transit router from VPC2 is 0 GB.

  • USD 0.02/GB × (100 GB + 0 GB) = USD 2

Total for one month:

  • Connection fee: USD 72

  • Data processing fee: USD 2

  • Total payment: USD 72 + USD 2 = USD 74

Example 2: Inter-region VPC communication

image

As shown in the preceding figure, assume you created two transit routers in a CEN instance. The transit routers are deployed in the China (Hangzhou) and China (Shanghai) regions. Each region has one VPC (VPC1 and VPC2). Each VPC is connected to the transit router in the same region. The two transit routers are connected by an inter-region connection. Within one month, VPC1 sent 100 GB of data to VPC2, and VPC2 did not send data to VPC1.

  • The traffic inbound to Transit Router 1 from VPC1 is 100 GB. The traffic inbound to Transit Router 2 from VPC2 is 0 GB.

  • USD 0.02/GB × (100 GB + 0 GB) = USD 2

Inter-region bandwidth fee:

  • If you select the pay-by-data-transfer billing method and the Gold link type, the unit price for cross-region traffic is USD 0.072/GB (for traffic between regions in the Chinese mainland).

  • The inter-region traffic outbound from Transit Router 1 to Transit Router 2 is 100 GB. The inter-region traffic outbound from Transit Router 2 to Transit Router 1 is 0 GB.

  • USD 0.072/GB × (100 GB + 0 GB) = USD 7.2

Total for one month:

  • Connection fee: USD 72

  • Data processing fee: USD 2

  • Inter-region bandwidth fee: USD 7.2 (pay-by-data-transfer)

  • Total payment: USD 72 + USD 2 + USD 7.2 = USD 81.2

Note

In the same scenario, if you select the pay-by-bandwidth billing method for inter-region bandwidth, the unit price for bandwidth between regions in the Chinese mainland is USD 34/Mbps/month. Assume that the bandwidth of the bandwidth plan is 10 Mbps. The inter-region bandwidth fee is USD 34/Mbps/month × 10 Mbps = USD 340. The total fee for one month, including the connection fee and data processing fee, is USD 72 + USD 2 + USD 340 = USD 414.

FAQ

  • CCN connection: Although CCN connections are intra-region connections, you can create them only through a Basic Edition transit router, and you are not charged a connection fee or a data processing fee.

  • For more information about cross-account scenarios, Basic Edition transit routers, and related issues, see Billing FAQ.
