Alibaba Cloud Partners with Universitas Indonesia to Establish Talent Development Skills Center

Jakarta, Indonesia, December 11, 2024 - Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, has announced a partnership with the Universitas Indonesia to establish the "Alibaba Cloud Academy Skills Center." This initiative marks a significant collaboration between academia and industry to enhance digital talent training in Indonesia, contributing to the nation’s goal of becoming a digital powerhouse by 2045.

With Indonesia aiming to achieve Golden Indonesia 2045, emphasizing digital transformation, there remains a pressing need for 9 billion digital talents by 2030 as reported by World Bank & McKinsey. This partnership is a critical step in addressing that gap and fostering a skilled workforce for the digital era.

The Skills Center, located on Universitas Indonesia campus, will offer training and certification courses in cutting-edge digital technologies, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Designed to support students at Universitas Indonesia, the center will also assist startups joining the "Universitas Indonesia Incubator Program" by providing the technological expertise and advisory necessary for their growth and success.

Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, MSc., Ph.D., Acting Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, said, “With the donated computing devices to access the cloud facility of Alibaba and the training materials, this skill center will empower our students, researchers, and faculty to gain hands-on experience with advanced cloud computing and AI technologies.”

Under the partnership, Alibaba Cloud will also provide free computing resources to support student innovation projects. Additionally, the partnership will organize joint events such as hackathons, innovation challenges, and technology showcases, aimed at stimulating creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and fostering collaboration among students, faculty members, and industry experts.

Furthermore, Alibaba Cloud will offer technology and advisory support to the Universitas Indonesia to advance initiatives related to smart education and sustainable campus development.

Over the past years, Alibaba Cloud has been committed to digital talent training in Indonesia through collaborations with different universities including Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Negeri Semarang, Binus University, Horizon University, Telkom University, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta and Universitas Negeri Jakarta, with over 1,000 students enrolled in these training programs so far. Since establishing its presence in Indonesia in 2016 with three data centers, Alibaba Cloud has been instrumental in supporting the digital transformation of various industries, including retail, finance, e-commerce, gaming, and logistics.
