Alibaba Cloud’s Advanced Database & Application Migration (ADAM) quantifies the database selection, migration risks, compatibility, and transformation workload to guide you through decision-making during the Oracle database migration. The three steps are listed below:
1. Business Research
Conduct research on the current databases and applications of your organization to assess the Oracle database migration. This process consists of background research, source database research, application research, and architecture research.
2. Feasibility Assessment
After the business research is completed, select an appropriate target database and formulate a detailed assessment plan to access the compatibility, performance, and migration risks of the target database.
3. Feasibility Verification
After the migration assessment is completed, select a representative module (such as the typical transaction settlement module) in the migration business, perform proof of concept (POC) testing on the target database to verify the feasibility of Oracle database migration, and issue a POC verification report.
Data Transmission Service (DTS) enables smooth database migration, ensures data accuracy and consistency, and supports business rollback upon anomalies. DTS can synchronize data in real-time, reducing system downtime and migration risks. The Oracle database migration contains three steps:
1. Business Transformation and Verification
After POC verification, conduct overall transformation, testing, and verification on the business system in terms of functions, performance, stability, reliability, security, scalability, migration plans, and rollback plans.
2. Cutover Drill
Conduct a cutover drill to test the functions, performance, and stability of the business system in a simulated release environment before production cutover. We recommend taking at least three to five cutover drills.
3. Production Cutover
Formulate cutover processes based on different business systems and assign process owners to take charge of each step to ensure successful production cutover.

Elasticity Management
ApsaraDB for PolarDB provides cloud-native elastic management capabilities. It enables cluster upgrade/downgrade, storage scale-in/scale-out, and in-service upgrade to enhance business write performance and reduce the risks of changing resource configurations by traditional means. The spatio-temporal multi-model SQL engine provides dedicated data types and functions. Hot and Cold Data Separation
As businesses grow, the data volumes of core business tables in the database increase. In the OLTP-oriented database architecture of Oracle, table expansion frequently occurs, affecting the business query efficiency. The cloud-native oss_fdw plug-in separates hot data and cold data for storage. Based on the plug-in, cold data is stored in Object Storage Service (OSS), enabling unlimited storage of massive cold data. Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) tunnels can be connected to transmit business data to the data warehouse. This enables report queries and online and offline big data analysis, providing decision-making support for enterprise customers.
