Alibaba Cloud Named a Visionary in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems

Company named with extensive product portfolio, market presence and cloud potential

Hangzhou, China, November 8, 2018 – Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, has become the first ever Chinese company to be included in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems (OPDBMS). The world-leading research and advisory company recognized Alibaba Cloud as one of the Visionaries, placing it among the top global players in the market.

Alibaba Cloud was found to possess the most extensive portfolio of Database Management Systems (DBMS) services out of all the cloud service providers (CSPs). From this comprehensive portfolio, innovative solutions such as ApsaraDB, HybridDB and POLARDB provide Alibaba Cloud's clients with fast, secure, flexible and scalable database services that are fully compatible with MySQL, the world's most popular open source database.

Analysis in the report found that the DBMS market is growing due to the adoption of cloud technology. This has in turn led Alibaba Cloud to become the second fastest-growing vendor among the top 15 in the DBMS market, with 88% growth propelling it to 12th place in 2017 from 20th place in 2016.

Alibaba Cloud has also been listed in the Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) by Gartner. As the company continues to gain recognition for its rapidly growing global network, international reach and cloud capabilities, in June this year, Alibaba ranked as one of the top three cloud services providers globally in Gartner, Market Share Analysis: IaaS and IUS, WW.
