CMEC Power Plant Online Academy

CMEC was planning for the conventional classroom training that required to fly many trainers to Sri Lanka for their newly built coal power plant. But due to time constraints and training effectiveness of ramping up training for over 2,000 engineers in this new power plant, CMEC has chosen to work with Bamboo System online solutions. Our initial online training proposal was based on physical servers but it will not be able to handle thousands of users access to learn and take exams. It will also encounter performance problem as well as costly servers deployment and infrastructure maintenance.In addition, CMEC is planning to extend their online training initiatives to other plants in Asia and Africa. The conventional online training with on-site servers will not be easy and too costly to scale to other regional plants.

Solutions

Bamboo System has worked with other cloud service providers in other projects. But after careful considerations, we have decided to implement our CMEC Power Plant Online Academy with Alibaba Cloud because it is more cost effective and provide better support for our deployment efforts.
By working closely with Alibaba Cloud technologists, Bamboo System’s technical project team was able to used Java and Python to write customized software to process and store video leveraging on Alibaba Cloud Open Storage Service (OSS).

This OSS will also enhance the capabilities of our crafted CMEC Online Academy platform by allowing accessed and called by Open API to upload and download data for any applications, anytime and anywhere. In addition, Alibaba Cloud OSS provides the convenience of remote data access control, server-side encryption, flexible upgrade as well as flexible billing, and the advantage of low maintenance.

Results and Benefits

Leveraging on the dynamic Alibaba Cloud cloud service, CMEC and Bamboo System are able to develop and deploy an online power plant training platform with an extensive range of operation and maintenance training courses, within a six months period, and with a cost saving of more than USD $200,000.
Our online training solution not only enabling training anytime and anywhere for the engineers in Sri Lanka, it can also scale up to CMEC other plants globally in a much shorter time frame. Other significant advantages include providing management and trainers with data analytic tools to generate useful information so as to optimize the training process and to achieve better training results.
