[ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL] - Plans to Remove X-Engine Feature From ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL

To continuously provide simple and excellent products, Alibaba Cloud plans to discontinue support for the X-Engine storage engine function in ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL. If you are currently using ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL X-Engine instances, this plan may have some impact on your business, please pay attention to the following content:
• From November 1, 2024, Singapore time, you will not be able to purchase or renew RDS instances using X-Engine as the storage engine, and we will no longer provide feature updates for the X-Engine function in ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL;
• Before April 30, 2025, Singapore time, you can continue to use the product and functions normally;
• From April 30, 2025, Singapore time, if you continue to use the relevant existing RDS instances (which use X-Engine as the storage engine), you will need to bear the risk yourself. Alibaba Cloud will no longer provide any support for such instances, including but not limited to document services, after-sales ticket services, etc.;
• From April 30, 2025, Singapore time, you will no longer be able to use the 'database recovery' function, formerly known as 'clone instance', for the relevant existing RDS instances utilizing X-Engine.
To avoid affecting your subsequent use, we strongly recommend that you change the ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance using the X-Engine storage engine to the InnoDB storage engine before the end of support date of the function (April 30, 2025, Singapore time), or you can also smoothly migrate to PolarDB for MySQL to enjoy better compression capabilities and performance. [1] X-Engine, as a storage engine independently developed by Alibaba Cloud, provides excellent capabilities for high-concurrency transaction processing and massive data storage scenarios. This storage engine adopts a tiered storage architecture, combining the advantages of memory, SSD, and HDD, which can significantly reduce storage costs and improve cost-effectiveness. Many users have used X-Engine in ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL and PolarDB for MySQL and enjoyed the benefits of its compression function. To further enhance product performance and functionality, PolarDB for MySQL has launched a hybrid storage engine ("InnoDB and high-compression engine"), supporting the use of two storage engines simultaneously in one cluster. Compared with the ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL X-Engine function, this solves the problem of cross-instance data transfer caused by incompatibility between InnoDB and X-Engine storage engines in some scenarios, greatly improving functionality, productivity, and efficiency. Based on the analysis of product performance benchmark test data and user feedback during the preview period of new functions, the hybrid storage engine of PolarDB for MySQLis better than the X-Engine function of ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL in all aspects, and has better storage capacity scalability (up to 100TB).
