About Halosis
Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, Halosis is a fast-growing social commerce startup that aims to empower passionate entrepreneurs and innovators in selling their products. It was awarded as Best Startup for UMKM 2019, presented by President of Indonesia Joko Widodo. It connects hundreds of thousands of Indonesian businesses to their customers and facilitates online sales via its social commerce channels. Halosis builds global scale AI-powered technology solutions to enable convenient, safe, and easy online selling and buying experiences.
Challenge
COVID-19 poses new challenges for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to connect with and serve their customers. To swiftly address such an unprecedented challenge, Halosis planned to roll out a new product, Halosis Retail, which allows consumer brands, merchants, and mom-and-pop stores to connect with their customers virtually. Rapid development and deployment of a new solution require a reliable, easy-to-use, and scalable cloud platform that supports the complete software development life cycle (SDLC). Halosis wanted to free up the in-house product engineering team from infrastructure management to focus more on the product layout, UI, and features. It was also looking for a local cloud partner that adheres to various industry regulations as per the Indonesian compliance requirements.

Having a wide range of services across compute, storage, and networking from a single cloud service provider has helped Halosis move from the development phase to the production phase rapidly. Also, since Alibaba Cloud has the relevant industry certifications and complies with local Indonesia regulations, it was a go-to cloud partner for Halosis to address its clients’ compliance requirements across industries.
Architecture
Partnering with Alibaba Cloud helped Halosis to launch Halosis Retail within six weeks by accelerating the development, testing, and production phases. Alibaba Cloud supported Halosis in the flexible deployment of IT resources for its clients with various IT needs. Alibaba Cloud offered a customized solution for Halosis to ensure data security and high availability across the product development and delivery stages.
Halosis uses Alibaba Cloud’s Elastic Compute Service (ECS) to scale capacity based on real-time traffic. It employs Server Load Balancer (SLB) to efficiently distribute traffic to multiple cloud instances and deliver a seamless experience. It leverages VPN Gateway to transmit data securely and reliably. It also uses Object Storage Service (OSS) to manage continuously growing data economically. Additionally, Halosis utilizes Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) to provide low latency and high transmission speeds to end-users.
