About BSS
PT. Bina Sarana Sukses (BSS) is a large contractor and heavy equipment company in Indonesia, focusing on the mining industry. The company was established in 2005 and has more than 2000 employees.
Challenge
As a fast-growing contractor of mining and hauling in Indonesia, BSS's mission is not only to becoming a high-performing mining contractor but also to be a leading innovator in technology. Measuring business performance and capital expenditure became a top priority—and challenge—for the finance division, particularly given the variable cost of equipment procurement, maintenance, and repair. To align with company’s mission, BSS needed to implement a best-of-breed ERP system using SAP S/4 HANA on the cloud.

Coupled with the business growth and digital transformation wave, BSS has shifted focus from manual processes and point solutions to a single source of truth across the organization in recent years. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is one of the key projects for IT team in 2018, which enables transformation from information silos to tightly integrated processes. SAP is the primary choice, largely due in part to its customers – mining companies - overwhelmingly prefer SAP for back-office automation and front office agility. Alibaba Cloud provides on-demand infrastructure with high availability that supports Bring Your Own License (BYOL) model for SAP HANA. In Indonesia, Alibaba Cloud is a top service provider for companies to run the SAP-powered OLTP and OLAP enterprise workloads on public cloud.

After considering solutions from leading cloud providers, the organization decided Alibaba Cloud offered the best solution stated below. • Certified Elastic Compute Service (ECS) R5 instances, which is designed for running high-performance databases and in-memory workloads like SAP HANA
• Cloud Storage Services (OSS) with built-in triplicate technology (3 data copies)
• A secured and reliable encrypted connection (Express Connect) from customer’s site to Alibaba Cloud via VPN Gateway
Looking Forward
By leveraging SAP on Alibaba Cloud's infrastructure, BSS was able to reduce the ramp-up time for new users with low network latency and enhance user experience with a stable and secure connection. By taking a cloud-based approach, BSS was able to focus on its core business while reducing the hassles of hardware maintenance and upgrade.
